Storyline for Marketing Real Estate

Aug 07, 2015

Hi,

I posted this in the Storyline forum, but someone mentioned I might get a better response here.

I was wondering if anyone has heard of Storyline being used to market properties. I would think that its ability to create interactive maps and use video for virtual tours would make it ideal for that purpose. I'm not a real estate agent, but I will be selling my condo next year, so that's what got me thinking. I'd love to see some samples if anyone knows of any, or if you have any suggestions, they'd be most appreciated.

Hi Kima,

I've seen a few examples that were set up as "virtual tours" so I thought I'd share them here:

It's a Free Virtual Tour Storyline Template

Virtual Tours in Online training

Storyline: Virtual tour of Paris

Virtual Office Security Tour

You may also want to look in the Building Better Courses forum, as that side tends to have more examples, ideas, and a focus on design/how to questions vs. the Product forums where more questions are asked about technical or support issues.

While I certainly think this would be interesting, I think it's important to make sure you're using it for only the correct pieces of information.

For example, I would never create an entire site in Storyline because you lose the ability for users to copy/paste text and a lot of general SEO advantages of having a normal site. I also liked linking images to family/friends so they could see the apartments I was looking at - this is a feature you lose in Storyline.

However, I might create a little virtual tour in it as a single piece of the entire marketing set up. That said - It would need to be well done and really thought out for mobile. Half of my apartment searching right now is being done on mobile.

Kima:

I realize your post is a few months old, but I wanted to share with you a Life-Style map I am working on for a company I work for in France.  This is one way we are using Storyline to develop a marketing piece about the area, and to leverage Storyline.  It's not complete, but does provide an example for you to consider.  I would love to see any ideas or examples you have created for the real estate industry.  Thanks!

As an FYI, this will be integrated within our Website/Blog, and NOT a standalone.  I agree, it may not be very effective as a website by itself.

Kima, yes, you could embed and use this same concept with a virtual tour, i.e. floor plans, etc.  Just create a hotspot for the room, then when the user clicks on this, a new layer could appear with either a video, 360 degree photo, photo slide show, or a virtual tour.  In fact, I really like this idea you have offered.  :-)

I definitely will Kima.  I am a real estate broker, and also speak on technology topics around the world.  I have a very good friend who sells real estate in Vancouver, and he works with a lot of off shore and international buyers.  Let me know if you want me to put him in touch with you (when you're ready to sell), as he is a very nice man, and a GREAT real estate professional.

Kima - these are very good ideas.  A virtual tour to me is nothing more than rendering various photos "stitched" together to make it seem more fluid or pieced together.

Even if you couldn't create the same exact thing within Storyline, you could create a simulated environment that worked like it.  WIth popups, layers where you can add information and states you could add even more value to the experience, making it an interactive tour.

Please share when you get more of what you are doing.

Thanks for asking the question and sharing ideas.
