Storyline HTML5 output accessibility?

Mar 08, 2016

From what I can read online, it appears that the "Articulate party line" is that only Storyline Flash output is "certified" to be Section 508 compliant for accessibility. However, I have a project where the output must be HTML5, and the client wants the course to be "as accessible as possible to a wide range of users" but so far isn't demanding full 508 compliance.

Maybe I'm reading things into peoples' posts, but it sounds as if some people are achieving *some level of accessibility in HTML5 courses. Also, some of the posts on this topic are several years old now. My questions: is it possible to output Storyline HTML5 with a level of accessibility for visual impairment, and if so, what is achievable and where can I learn more about how to build it?

This is a basic, informational course with a basic interactions and linear navigation - no videos, audio (at the moment), screen movies/simulations, etc. Think of a PPT on a low dose of steroids. Thanks in advance.

Hi Bob.  I just wanted to pop-in and provide this link to compare the capabilities of our different outputs; there is a section on Accessibility at the bottom.  We know that HTML5 support is important, and we have a dedicated team focused on HTML5 improvement.

Perhaps some other folks in the community can offer their experiences with making their courses accessible!

Hi Bob,

I'm in the same situation. Articulate's dev team seems to be working hard on a solution, but right now, you and I cannot create a section 508 compliant course in SL2 if the published output is HTML5. There will be no keyboard accessibility for your end users, and many other basic 508-compliant features are not supported in HTML5-published output at this time. But, who knows, an update delivered by the Articulate dev team may change this soon???
