Variables, javascript conundrum
Mar 26, 2020
Hi folks
i'm finalising a project where the learner answers a question yes, no, not yet, then depending on that answer, are asked something else.
I need to produce a reflection summary with their answers and i'd like to include their yes, no or not yet response, and then the question they received. This obviously will produce a different set of questions for different users.
How can I do this!?
THANKS and hope you are all well

Hi Kate,
Quick follow-up question here: Do you want the learner to be able to view this summary? Or do you just want to see it?
Hi Allison - thanks for asking - it's for the learner.
Gotcha! It sounds like you'd need to use a set of variables and states in order to set this up. I did something similar in this template. I would suggest having a look to see how I've set it up and then adapt it to your situation.
Thanks Alison - is there a way to produce a results slide with several of the short answer text fields on it?
Hi Kate,
Yes, you can add data entry fields to any slide, including results slides. Here's a tutorial that talks about how those work.
Hi! Thanks for your help - I can't see on that tutorial how to edit the results slide to contain 2 or more of the text entry fields? In the past i've done a javascript and had the text entry fields on it but I was hoping to not have to do that!
Hi Kate,
I'm not sure I understand what you mean. You can insert as many data entry fields as you want on any given slide. Are you referring to the data entry question slide, instead?
Hi - i'm trying to avoid making a javascript to print out their text entry fields - so wondered if the review results component of a quiz could mean that those text fields could be presented on one page, and thus be printed. I suspect lack of social contact has sent me barmy!
Ah yes, I see what you mean. If you're using a short-answer or essay question instead of data entry fields, then you're right, you can't have multiple on a page.
You can display the references all on one slide for printing, if you struggle let me know, I will do you a downloadable pdf.
ah - oh well - I had a sneaking suspicion that was the case - so am slowly working my way through and creating variables for each question - I think there are about 30 and there are 3 possible answers to each question, then a text response. Wish I knew how to make a PDF table quickly!!
Hi Phil - I've not made a PDF before - have just fumbled my way through doing javascript to produce a summary of reflections in the past, but this course needs it presented slightly more neatly I think!
It is a little bit of coding but mainly a boring job to do it. Pagination of the PDF is a little annoying but can be hardcoded.
I can do if you want, I would need the storyline course at some point to do it.
I won't say no! I would dearly love to be walked through it too at some point!
I'm in the process of finalising the checklist that creates the table - will be in touch!
