Version issue of the same module..

Dec 21, 2012

Hi,

I have 2 different versions of the same module. When i try to install Version 2, I notice that the Version 1 custom player package overwrites the Version 2 custom player package because the system thinks they are the same version. Is there any way that I can have a different artpkg of Vesrion 2 custom player that will not overwrite the Version 1 and will be labeled ‘Vesrion 2’. Since I’ll be doing more of these in the future I’d like to make sure I can maintain all versions of the custom player in parallel.

Thanks!

Hi Nilambari,

I have a couple of questions.

1) Have you created the artpkgs yourself by copying the same package and renaming it locally? For example, copying version1 and just renaming the artpkg to version 2?

2) Do the players within the package have a unique name? version1.swf and version2.swf

My understanding of the issue is that the internal files within the artpkg are not having a different file name so when the package unzips, it is getting overwritten. Before creating the artkpkg, rename your player to what you want it be and try again. Let me know if you still have a problem.

Hi Nilambari,

Can you try these two things and check

1. Go to the 'ast remote' fla  file and change the swf file name (for ex whichever name you want for the version 2) within the code.

2. The GUId in the xml files (package.xml and version 2.xml) should be different from the GUId of version1.

Let me know if that helps

Hi Rich,

Thanks for your suggestions.

Implementing both the suggestions has worked but facing a new problem now

The course is not loading. It hangs in the loading stage. Also wanted to ask if we can change the GUId on our own will or do we need to undergo any process for it?

To check whether I am doing right, I have copied the files of Version 01 to create Version 02 and made the changes you have mentioned. Does this make any difference or can it be done in another way?

Hope I am not confusing you :)

Nilambari
