Video Development - Globalization

Apr 13, 2017

Does anyone have any suggestions for strategies for the globalization of screen capture videos?

I've played around with ideas of using videos with no narration/only pop ups if anything that just show processes. This might work, but also presents its own set of challenges as the interface will still be in English, and it negates some of the accessibility that narration provides.

Just looking for ideas. Thanks!

Great question, Will! Unfortunately I've never found an easy way to do this. If you really want to provide a localized experience you'd need to re-capture the videos with the interface in the target language, which can be time-consuming depending on how long the video is.

Certain localization vendors offer to redo your screencasts for you, localize the voiceover texte, and re-record the audio. Outsourcing the localization itself would certainly be easier, however it would also be more costly.

If any other community members have found a good process for this, I'd love to hear what it is!
