Adding captions to a video on a slide rather than the whole slide
In Storyline, I'd like to add captions to a video on a slide and have the captions appear on the video, which is smaller than the overall slide size. Is this possible? When I preview, the captions are just centred at the bottom of the slide rather than on the video.
Hi Christina,
Thanks for reaching out. We currently have a feature request logged for the ability to change the Closed Caption placement. I have added your voice to the request. We'll be sure to update this thread with any updates.
In the meantime, I wanted to share an older post that could provide some help to you. This thread references community workarounds for adding Closed Captioning to a video.
Hope this helps!
Hi Christina,
I have some great news to share. We just released another update for Storyline 360. In Update 86, we’ve included important fixes and new features.
One of the new features we’ve included:
- Position captions at the top or bottom of the slide to ensure closed caption visibility and prevent the obstruction of critical course content.
Launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer to take advantage of this update, and click the Update button next to Storyline 360. You’ll find our step-by-step instructions here.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Eric,
many thanks for the update. It's great that there is some flexibility to decide where the captions appear, and that would work well when the captions are of the audio soundtrack of, say, narration. That's not my use case.
Here's a mock-up of what I had in mind in my original post:
Hello Christina,
Thanks for the screenshots of what you want to see with closed captions placement. It helps a lot to visualize your requirements. We are monitoring a new feature request to expand closed caption positioning choices in Storyline 360. We'll let you know if there are any changes. Stay tuned!
