Closed captions disappear when I publish my course as a video

Hi,

I'm using Storyline 360.

I have created a short course that I also need to publish as a video. I've included built-in closed captions. They show up fine in preview mode and when I publish to SCORM, but they do not show up when I publish as a video. I had inserted the trigger to set the Player.DisplayCaptions variable to positive on the first slide. Is there something else I need to do?

Thanks,
Linda

  • Hi, Linda and Phil!

I have some great news to share. We just released another update for Storyline 360. In Update 73, we’ve included important fixes and new features!

    One new feature we’ve included:

Boost video accessibility by including closed captions when publishing projects as MP4 video files.

To take advantage of this update, launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer, and click the Update button next to Storyline 360. You'll find our step-by-step instructions here.

Please let me know if you need additional help!

  • I believe the closed captions are part of the player so are lost when publishing to video

  • Hi Linda,

Thanks for reaching out and letting us know what you are experiencing in your course. It sounds like you are following the instructions that we have here to get the captions to auto-display.

We do have an open feature request that we are tracking to include the closed captions when publishing to MP4. I'll be sure to add this conversation to the report.

In case it's helpful in the meantime, this feature does seem to work for closed captions that are a part of an embedded video. You can check out the conversation I had with another community member here.

      Hi,

What is an "open feature" - do you mean an open issue? I thought the closed captions were supposed to work in videos.

      Thanks,

      Linda

  • They work in videos inside of the course but not when you publish to a video.

  • Hi Linda,

An open feature request, I've corrected my post above as well. I apologize for any confusion.

The closed captions will work in your interactive course, but the feature request is for them to work when your course is published to mp4 as well.
