Format Paintbrush Disappears

I use a large colorful mouse pointer (arrow) so I can see it easier.

However, I think the Storyline 360 Format Paintbrush doesn't know how to work with it!

When I use a smaller default pointer, I don't have issues with the Format Paintbrush.

When using my large pointer, I double-click on the Format Painter, and then try to click on my slide text, but the pointer becomes invisible.

Please help. I really prefer to use the tool but don't want to reset my pointer to a smaller one.

  • Hi BeverleyCuria,

Happy to test this for you!

Would you mind sharing how you're changing the appearance of your mouse cursor so I can test how it affects the functionality of the format painter? Are you modifying something in the settings to change the mouse's appearance? Or are you using a third-party application that customizes the cursor?

You can also try repairing your Storyline 360 installation with the mouse cursor set to the large, colorful setting to see if this helps.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Jose, I did some more testing and it isn't the mouse causing the Format Paintbrush to disappear. It is likely a combination of the following:

      1. Logging in to VMWare
      2. Remoting in to my desktop machine
      3. Using 2 monitors

I found that when Storyline is displaying on my second monitor (a 32"), the Format Paintbrush disappears.

If I drag the Storyline back to my laptop monitor, the Format Paintbrush reappears.

        Hi BeverleyCuria,

        Thanks for the additional information!

I tested this with my laptop and connected monitor, but I'm unable to replicate the issue. Is this happening when using the default pointer, too? Or only the large pointer? I'm happy to test this with the larger pointer you mentioned, if you can kindly confirm how you changed it.

Additionally, have you tried a Storyline repair as my teammate, JoseTansengco, suggested? I'm also curious if this happens with a brand-new file or just this specific one.

If you're comfortable sharing your file with us for further troubleshooting, you can upload it here or privately in a support case. We'll delete it from our systems once troubleshooting is complete!
