In need of a plugin/utility for uploading .story files to a WordPress website
Hey Richard,
A few questions:
1. Are you uploading all of the files that Storyline puts out when it publishes? Or just the .html file? Make sure you're loading all the files.
2. WordPress isn't really going to recognize the format. When you upload the Storyline file, you're actually creating a separate website on your server that you will then link to on your WordPress site. WordPress won't recognize it as a media format.
Here's how I do it:
I've created a separate folder on my web server just for my e-learning modules:
Inside that folder, you'll see folders to all of my various Storyline folders:
Then, inside those folders, you'll see the Storyline output.
The story.html file that you see is what you will "link" to.
So now you see at the top where it says /public_html/ohthatrachel/elearning/10waystoengage?
That represents your "public" link, with just a few changes needed:
- Take away the /publichtml/
- The .com to the end of your domain name in the full link (my domain is ohthatrachel.com)
- Add the "story.html" to the very end of it.
My full link looks like: www.ohthatrachel.com/elearning/10waystoengage/story.html.
Let me know if that helps!
I am having the same problem as everyone else, but, apparently, I don't understand The Interwebz.
I have no idea what the wonderful Rachel, above--2 years ago, has posted. I have the same problem as the OP, but I cannot wrap my brain around what Rachel responded with. It looks to be the answer to my problem, but I fear my free WordPress blog doesn't allow me to access to its remote site.
To see if I can even access the remote site for my free WordPress blog, can someone tell me where I'd even look?
David mentions a plugin but I can't add plug-ins to my free site.
I guess I'm stuck, huh? I need to pay for something? I'm open to doing that but don't want to go that route unless I have to.
Any help would be much appreciated.
PS I did see something in this thread about going to Google Drive and using that to access the content. Or am I going insane?

The Google Drive option is no longer possible. So I'm back to square one; can someone tell me exactly what I need to put this course up on my free Wordpress blog? I don't need anything too big; I'd just like to post 5-7 courses at most probably.
I guess I need to buy a Premium account to use the plug-in. I've read that's only limited to three uses and then you have to pay for it. Anybody have more experience with the plug in?
Another option, and one I prefer, is to use a hosting service that will just let me upload whatever I want (within size limits). Is that right? How does that work? And do I have access to everything on the site so I can do what I need to do when I need to do it?
Any help would be much appreciated. I've spent my entire vacation putting courses together and wanted to spend today, my last day of vacation, putting it all on my site. I feel like I wasted my vacation. Boo. Thanks!

Holy moly. Hi Heather! I've spent my freetime for the last few months figuring out this very same thing. I had a free wordpress site and realized I needed to upgrade. I'm not a website designer and had no idea where to start. Trial by error 100%. Here are some tips:
Go here: http://www.wpbeginner.com/start-here/
I'm not really sure how this guy makes money because I didn't pay him anything... but I ended up having someone from his team take my free WP site and transfer it over to the pro site and set it up. So that was a huge help because I had no idea what I was doing at all and at one point, I somehow had two websites....
This article helped explain some stuff
WP Free vs. Self Hosted:
http://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/self-hosted-wordpress-org-vs-free-wordpress-com-infograph/
Also after a few evenings on the internet I realized wow I need a place to upload my files and I ended up with BlueHost - they integrate automatically with WP which has been totally seamless and they are a lot cheaper than ones like GoDaddy
Then later I discovered I need a way to transfer files from my computer to BlueHost and I ended up with Filezilla.
I purchased a responsive theme from array.com -- Teach yourself how to create a child theme and work from that! Your future self will thank you.
There is a plugin for anything you want to do.
Basically I just google what I want to know and teach myself.
**HELPFUL TIP** before you go down a rabbit hole with some article or blog post about how to do something with WordPress -- make sure you find out when the article was published. Anything more than a year old is probably a waste of your time because by now, there is most likely an upgraded, easier way to do what you want to do. And/or there's just a plugin you can download.
That's basically a quick download of all the main points I've gathered in my WordPress saga. I hope it helps!!!!

Kristen,
Thanks for your help!! I followed Linda's link and used Tom K.'s tutorial on using Amazon S3 and Cloudberry Explorer. It's working beautifully now. I need to get more courses together so I can pinpoint and optimize my workflow.
I think we're in the same boat; I can't believe how massive the understanding of *EVERYTHING* is just to get a portfolio going! Yikes. Here's to hoping I get some interviews. :) Thanks again for everything.

Hi Heather,
You can't upload published Articulate files on a free WordPress blog, but you can use Amazon S3,. See instructions here http://blogs.articulate.com/rapid-elearning/5-easy-ways-share-e-learning-courses/

Hi, Linda!
Thanks for your prompt response! Holy cow! I just followed the tutorial and have myself all set up. I didn't even know this type of...stuff...existed.
I love this community!! This type of support makes it that much easier to shell out the money for an Articulate 360 subscription.
