Layer Problems
Hey guys,
Hopefully someone can help with this!
I'm creating a slide that uses layers to show more information on an item when it's clicked by the user. The issue I'm having is that whenever they reach the layer, the item which has been clicked doesn't disappear off the base layer as I have set it to. How do I get it to disappear along with all the other items?
Things I've tried and didn't work:
- making it invisible on the timeline
- changing the state of the item to hidden when it's clicked
I've attached a couple of images to support my question.
Thanks (especially if this is a ridiculously simple question),
Ella :)

Hi, Ella.
Thank you for sharing the screenshots!
You set the visibility of objects on the base for each of your layers. For example, this is my base layer:
When the user clicks the triangle, they are taken to a layer, where I unchecked the visibility of the object:
Let me know if that works!

I'm also having an issue with layers, but I'm not sure if it is the same as the OP's. My project is way tooooo big to attach, so I'm going to try to attach screenshots. When I create a new layer (using the icon in the slide layers panel OR using Insert Layer from the menu tabs), the new layer is a full slide, not just the "layer content". See screen shot 1. I've checked visibility in the timeline as suggested by Maria CS and all seems to be in order. See screen shot 2. I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling StoryLine, and the problem persists. Not sure what I'm doing wrong?

KarenGerfenG147: Based on Screenshot 1, I'd say the layer has at least one of these settings:
- the Slide Layer Properties are set to hide objects on the base layer
- the background has a solid fill
This post includes details about both of those settings (and others): Can't see the base from a layer? Or is it just dimmed? Here's how to control visibility... | Articulate - Community
If neither of those is the issue, well, troubleshooting would just be guessing without seeing the programming. Here are the best practices for uploading a .story file:
- Only include slides that are related to the problem.
- Be sure objects, layers, motion paths, and variables have meaningful names.
- If there is proprietary content, replace or delete it. For example, replace proprietary text with “ipsum lorem” text.
In your case, the slide shown in the screenshot would be enough.
