Master slide layer pausing when loading

Hi Articulate community, I'm hoping you might be able to help - it's a little confusing so I'll try and explain as best as I can.

I have a master slide set up in Storyline with a layer on it, which I have created a countdown timer on. It counts down by reducing 'second' and 'minutes' variables each time the layer ends (which is 1 second long).

This is great until I create a slide with this master slide as its master, and put a layer on this new slide. This causes the master slide's layer (and therefore countdown timer) to stop.

I can't share the actual doc as it's work IP, but does anyone have any idea on how I can fix this, and make the master countdown timer work on all slide's layers?

Thanks

  • without seeing it, it will be difficult to work out why, may need top raise a support case and see if they can help.

my gut would say that the layer is being closed and you can add shapes and references to confirm this.

  • you may need to set all layers properties to no hide other layers but makes your build more difficult.

  • Thanks Phil, yeah I thought this might be the case, but I didn't know if there was a way to keep the master slide layer still operating when a slides own layer loads. I'll keep playing and if I can't fix it, I'll open a support case - thanks!

  • Hi Lana, did you find a solution.  I am now in the same situation.

    Kind regards'

  • Hi Jennifer,

I don't see a support case opened by Lana on this subject, but I'm happy to help! Can you share your .story file through a support case, so we can investigate the issue? We will delete it from our systems once troubleshooting is complete.

Just checking if there was a solution to this as I am facing the same issue.

Without seeing the actual .story file, it is difficult to troubleshoot. Try unchecking "Hide other slide layers" in the layer properties to solve the issue described in the original post.
