New to Storyline: Can You Customize Closed Captions?
I'm new to Articulate Storyline, (I've been using Captivate for more than 10 years, and I have a question about closed captions. Beyond changing the font and the font size, are there other ways that you can customize closed captions? Can you change the fill color or the font color of the closed caption? Or can you move the closed caption to another spot on the slide?
Hello Everyone!
I'm happy to share that we have released Storyline 360 version 86 (Build 3.86.32028.0).
Included in this release we have two new features:
- Position captions at the top or bottom of the slide to ensure closed caption visibility and prevent the obstruction of critical course content.
- Customize the foreground and background colors of closed captions to complement your course design and maintain contrast accessibility.
All you need to do is update Storyline 360 in your Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer. You'll find our step-by-step instructions here.
Please let us know if you have any questions by reaching out to our Support Engineers directly.
Have a great day!

Hi Michael, you can’t do this in Storyline itself but Matthew Biddy has come up with a workaround. I have not tried it myself and I think it only works for html5 output.
Hi Anna, and thanks for reaching out!
To make closed captions easier to read, you have the option to increase the captions font size up to 200% in the modern player.
We're currently tracking two additional feature requests:
- Ability to Customize Closed Caption Colors
- Ability to Change Closed Caption Placement
We appreciate your feedback and encourage you to submit a feature request if there are other features you would like to see added. In the meantime, we'll be sure to keep this discussion up to date on our progress!

Thank you. Just did this today. I knew there had to be a way to do it, and I forgot about that feature in the player.
Hey Michael,
We're tracking requests for more customization options for closed captions, so I'll add your feedback to our report!

Hi Alyssa! The same request from our side. We really need to improve captions customization... Can you please inform us on the status for this request? Thanks!
Hello Zoya and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)
Thanks for reaching out and letting us know that this feature would be helpful for you as well.
I do not have an update at this time, but this conversation is linked to the report and you are in the right place to be notified when we do.

Hello Leslie,
This topic is a few years old now, but I believe there still isn't much available customization for the closed captions. I just wanted to point out that I too would like to have this feature added in future updates.
Thank you!

We are having the same issue with the captions. The current caption features are a challenge when navigating between different display media.
Thanks for the context, David!
If we make changes in this area in a future update of Storyline, we promise to keep this discussion updated. Click here for a glimpse of how we manage feature requests!

Good afternoon, all. Been away for two years . When I left i was using SL3. Now using Articulate 360. How do you insert a Closed Caption into a slide?
Welcome back, Patrick :)
You have a couple of options for adding closed captions to your Storyline 360 project.
Storyline 360: Importing Closed Captions for Narration and Videos
Storyline 360: Creating and Editing Closed Captions with the Built-In Editor

Hello dear team!
I am also looking for a solution to customize closed captions. Indeed, we have a template that we must use for closed captions so I can't use the Storyline 360 template.
I am joining this thread to have an update if something comes up! :)

I have a question about how closed captions show up on each type of device. When previewing an iPad layout, for example, the closed caption option does not seem to be available.
