New toolbar tips cover up part of slide

Hi there,

The new toolbar tips in the modern player that show up when you hover over the toolbar are causing me a lot of problems. They cover up part of my slides and so are constantly getting the way. The extent to which they do this depends on the size of the screen and if the side bar is collapsed or not. Is there a way to either change the height of the player beneath the slide so they aren't covering it or to just disable this feature?

Thanks much!

  • Hi C. J.!

It sounds like you were looking for a way to disable the Player Tooltips in Storyline.

I'm happy to share we currently have an open feature request to give users the ability to toggle Player Tooltips on and off. I've included you in the feature report so you can be notified if it makes it to our Feature Roadmap.

    Thanks for reaching out!

  • Hi C.J.!

Thanks for checking in. We don't have any updates at this time. We'll update this thread in the future so you are in the loop if we have any news to share!

Have a great start to your week!

Thanks so much for this reply and for explaining how to track work on new features. It looks like this is not even on that list yet, or am I missing it? In addition to covering up slide content, I consider the tool tip feature to make my courses not accessible.

I am guessing you added the tool tip feature to improve accessibility, but we might have to agree to disagree. This is an accessibility problem for mouse users with limited dexterity who might be accidently hovering over these things all the time and finding their constant appearance and disappearance very distracting and annoying. I also consider it an accessibility problem for some people with cognitive/learning disabilities due to how distracting they might find it.

I don't publish things I don't consider accessible. If I'm waiting for months for you to get to this, I might be forced to. Is it possible to roll back my version of Storyline to before the most recent update?

I am also wondering if, as a best practice, Articulate would consider always including the ability to disable new features in the same update as when you add them to avoid situations like this.

    Thanks for your consideration!

      Hello C.J.,

      Happy to chime in!

Player Tooltips were introduced in the November 2023 update of Storyline 360. If you'd like to downgrade to an update that doesn't have this feature, you can use Storyline 360 Update 80 or earlier. Here's how:

Thanks as well for sharing your feedback on the newly introduced Player Tooltips, and we'll be sure to leave a message here in case an option to disable them becomes available.

Thank you so much!! I was able to install the older version. You've made my day.

I do hope Articulate addresses this soon. It looks like your goal is to give the learner control over the feature, which is great. If that's a challenge to program, perhaps you could consider allowing the developer to disable for all until you're able to get to allowing the user to control it?

    Thanks for considering!

Thanks for your reply. That's disappointing since it could mean 2 months or 2 years.

    I hope that Articulate considers:

    • giving developers the ability to disable the feature soon, if that is easier to program than giving the user the ability.
    • having a best practice of always making sure your users can disable new features when you roll them out. Rolling out a new feature making us wait for months (years?) to be able to get rid of it is very frustrating.

Appreciate you taking the time to reply, I hope you have a good rest of your day!

Checking in on this issue again. In addition to my concerns listed above, I am having to redo templates I've carefully developed over years because these tool tips cover my next button and all you have to do to trigger them is go barely outside the edge of the slide. Please allow us to disable this feature ASAP.
