SCORM 2004 - Status of "Failed" vs "In Progress - Still a problem

Hello,

We are having a problem with the way our LMS reports on a course when the learner leaves in the middle and then comes back to it. No matter what we set, the learner always sees "Failed" when they return. We are using SCORM 2004 and have a quiz, with triggers set to show completion after the quiz is completed. We have tried using other triggers but nothing is helping. There was a thread on this from 6 years ago but it is now closed.  The last comment suggested moving the "Submit Results" trigger to the bottom of the trigger list.  I have done that but it hasn't made a difference.

Has anything changed since this question was last posed?

Thanks!

  • Hi Jay,

Change the completion status to "Incomplete and passed " not failed and completed/passed.

This issue will be fixed as soon as you change the status in the storyline publish settings

      Thanks Sree,

We tend to set Passed/Failed so we can report on who has passed or failed. Am I looking at this wrong?

        Hello Jay,

Have you tried testing your course in a different LMS to see if the behavior you're experiencing is specific to your LMS? You can upload your course in SCORM Cloud and then load your course and exit to see if you will still get a 'Failed' mark.

We also have this article which explains how completion and success statuses are reported to an LMS.

You can try experimenting with different editions of SCORM 2004 to see if they all produce the same result in your LMS.

If you are able to replicate the behavior in SCORM Cloud, would you be willing to share a copy of your project file here or in private by opening a support case so we can review how completion is reported by your course? We'll delete it when we're done testing!
