Screen Recording - Output Size Doesn't Match Settings

I'm attempting a screen recording of a software window. The window is maximized. The size of my monitor (I've tried all three of my monitors) is 1920x1080, which is my project size. When I initiate the recording, it appears to fit perfectly within the recording frame. However, the output either shows the software window going off the screen or minimized. Is there a fix for this or settings I'm missing? (Please enjoy the images of my sweet baby on the wallpaper that shouldn't be displaying in my output! :))

Thank you! :)

  • Hi, Jenna!

I have some great news to share! We just released another update for Storyline 360. In Update 77, we've included important fixes and new features.

One of the enhancements we've included:

    • Storyline 360 now supports screen recordings on primary and secondary monitors with DPI settings over 100%.

Launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer to take advantage of this update, and click the Update button next to Storyline 360. You'll find our step-by-step instructions here.

Please let me know if you need additional help!

  • Hi Jenna,

I'm sorry to hear your output is not coming out as expected! We've seen reports of the screen recording becoming misaligned when the DPI settings of any secondary monitors are greater than 96 DPI (or 100%).

If you set all your monitor's display settings to 100%, does that help solve the issue? If you continue to run into unexpected outputs, feel free to connect with a support engineer, and they can take a closer look at your setup.

  • Hi, Ren:

Thanks for your reply! Sadly, the settings you mentioned were already in place.

How's this for an anomaly? (See attached.) Is this something you've seen? I have one software window up for recording, and in the preview, it looks fine. The output, however, duplicates the window and insets it inside the large (in my view, only) window.

  • Hi Jenna,

That is odd that it would look fine during preview, but then you get a different result once you publish it! I haven't come across that issue yet.

This isn't a long-term solution, but you may also want to try screen-recording without any other monitors attached and see if the result is as you expected.

      Hi, Ren:

Thanks again for getting back to me. The latest screen shot is a result of recording just directly from my laptop (no monitors attached). I'm at a loss. Would this be a case for Support? I'm still on a trial, and I really want to show my executive team that this is the tool I prefer to use... but if I have difficulty recording our software, then this can't be the solution for us. :(

      Thank you,

      Jenna

  • Hi Jenna,

It looks like the attachment didn't make it through, but I'm sorry that tip didn't help either! I'm opening a case on your behalf to connect you with a support engineer. I'll share with them this discussion and what you've come across so far.

Be on the lookout for a response soon. They'll reach out and see if they can help you get the screen recording tool working correctly!
