Slide resolution size: 1280 x 720 versus 1920 x 1080

I couldn't find an up-to-date discussion on this question. We currently use 1280 x 720 for our eLearning courses, but have heard more about 1920 x 1080. All of our courses are completed via a mobile phone, tablet, or laptop. With this:

1. Is there a benefit (aside from a slightly crisper resolution) to using 1920 x 1080 instead of 1280 x 720?
2. Is there a downsize to using 1920 x 1080?
2. What is the new standard resolution size for eLearning courses?
3. Does anyone have any good resources for researching this topic a bit more?

Thank you in advance!

I accommodate 1920x1080 by building slides at 1800x1008. At full screen, this allows my slide to fill the play-area while the menu is open while also allowing me to be pixel accurate as I make my design layout divisible by thirds and fourths.

The biggest issue is load times. By the time I add raster graphics at this resolution, my course is chonky.

Thank you for this information! I'll play around with slides at 1800x1008 and see how it looks for our courses.
