Source Files
How do you download the source files for a course? We have a license and are using Rise.

My company has the same request to store source files offline. I hope it will be addressed in the future.

Same here!

This is a huge limitation to this software, and probably means loads of companies just can't use Rise, even though they want to. Basically it means that you always need to have an active subscription, in order to edit files. This is such a greedy business model, and I'd even say that it reflects quite badly on the company. I bloody love your software, and all my clients love it aswell. But, come on guys, it's a bit unethical really.
Hi Kristina,
I mentioned you can export a Rise 360 course for Web. This will generate an output file that you can store on your hard drive as a backup.
Should you ever need to use the backup file in the future, just host it on a web server, or unzip the file and view the index.html file offline. There isn't a way to upload the output file back into Rise 360, but you can always use it to create a new course.

It’s quite a poor workaround. Why not let us export back-ups? Because you will get more clients in the long run...

I am just chiming in here as well that this is a deal-breaker for many contractors doing business for clients. If I cannot deliver the source file at the end of development, I cannot use Rise. Please let me know if this changes as I would love to use this great tool.
Hi Katie! Since Rise authoring is web-based, any edits you or your clients make to a course would be done in rise.articulate.com. You can always send a copy of the course to your clients so they can have their own source files. I hope that helps!

Checking in here to see if there have been any updates on this. I am trying to share exported source files with a client and discovered that it doesn't seem to be possible. Is this still the case? I've gone through may threads and can't seem to find a lot of information on it. Any help would be super appreciated!
Thanks!

Hi Sarah,
Exported files are not editable.
You require an active subscription to retain access to your Rise courses/source files.
So if your client requires access as well, they would also require an active Rise account.

Thanks!
My client definitely has a subscription but the problem is that they would like to house the source files on their own server for security reasons.
Hi Sarah! The send a copy feature is your best bet. Your client can export those courses for Web and host them on their own servers. However, those courses are only editable on rise.articulate.com.

I own an elearning development business, and as part of my contracting with many organizations, they require ALL source files upon project completion.
It would be great if Articulate could come up with a way that I could send my clients a source file for Rise courses that they could edit later (without me being involved).
Many of my clients don't have an Articulate 360 subscription and just want me to develop the courses and send them the LMS published versions, BUT, they want the source files for future editing (they want the option to buy a subscription in the future to be able to do edits on their own).
Any plans for this soon?
Hi Shelly!
Thanks for reaching out! For now, you can use the send a copy feature to send your clients a copy once they sign up for an Articulate 360 subscription. Your client can then export those courses for Web and host them on their own servers. However, those courses are only editable on rise.articulate.com.
If anything changes, we'll let you know!- DarrenColemanCommunity Member
I'd echo the points above. It's an incredibly restrictive and controlling business model.
As someone that is new to Articulate Rise I have just had a course saved as a SCORM package and now the designer has said they are no longer going to subscribe to Rise.
With this in mind if I obtain a Zip of the SCORM package will I be able to share that with someone that has Articulate Rise for them to edit - once it has been uploaded as a new course? This goes off this comment "There isn't a way to upload the output file back into Rise 360, but you can always use it to create a new course.""

Hi Darren,
You cannot bring a publish SCORM ZIP file back into Rise for editing.
