Text size shrinking on publish of Sequence Drag & Drop questions.

So my Sequence Drag & Drop text size looks fine in Edit mode:

but then in Preview and Publish mode it is VERY tiny:

Anyone have a fix for this? I don't see a 'turn off text auto-fit' option in the settings anywhere. It is greyed out in the properties dialogue box that I do see. Would "Upgrade Project Text" be of any help?

Thanks!

Alan

  • Hi, Alan!

I have some great news to share. We just released another update for Storyline 360. In Build 3.80.30988.0, we've included important fixes and new features.

One fix included in this update:

    • Font sizes shrunk for sequence drop-down answers when previewed or published.

Launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer to take advantage of this update, and click the Update button next to Storyline 360. You'll find our step-by-step instructions here.

Please let me know if you need additional help!

      Hi Kelly,

Wow, that's awesome. Thanks so much for the 'actual' update! I have been working on other interactions so didn't notice it yet, but that is good news!

      Regards,

      Alan

  • Hi Alan!

Sorry to hear you're running into issues with the text size from your Sequence Drag & Drop interaction. I'd be happy to help troubleshoot this with you!

Testing this out on my end (Storyline 360 ver 3.79.30834.0 via Windows Parallels on a Mac M1) The text size remained the same while editing my slides as well as after previewing/publishing the course:

Modifying the default settings you mentioned shouldn't be necessary, and I have some follow-up questions to help me understand what you are experiencing a little better.

If you would be willing to share a copy of the affected project file, we'd be happy to take a closer look and test the behavior on our end. You can share it here in this discussion or privately through a support case. We'll delete it from our system once we're finished!

Looking forward to hearing from you!

  • Hey Steven,

Thanks for looking into that for me. I tried several different fonts including Articulate font but the same result. I do not have the latest updates but am up to my armpits in a huge project with zero time to switch versions not to mention the risk of update anomalies.

I'm working on a standard PC setup. Art. version 3.77.30587.0

    Thanks again.

      Hi Alan!

Thanks for following up and sharing the feedback! Happy to continue working with you on this!

Using a variety of fonts I tested the behavior again, this time in Storyline 360 version 3.77.30587.0. The text size remained the same while editing the slide as well as after previewing/publishing the course.

Can you confirm if you are working locally? We recommend you Create, Edit, and Publish Courses on Your Local Hard Drive while authoring in order to avoid erratic behavior.

Also, it would be helpful to take a closer look at the affected project file and test the behavior on our end. Would you be willing to share a copy here in the discussion or privately through a support case? We'll delete it from our system as soon as we're finished!

  • I notice that my strings of text are longer. Do you have any trouble with longer strings? What happens if you use the same length as mine?

      Hi Alan,

      Happy to help!

Here's a screenshot of a drag-and-drop question slide that I created in Storyline 360 which contains long text:

And here's what the same slide looks like when published:

While I was unable to replicate the behavior you reported, I did notice some unusual formatting of the text in the published output.

I noticed that you are a few versions back with your Storyline 360 installation. What happens when you update your installation to the latest version, does doing so allow your text to display without shrinking?

If your text still shrink, please try replicating the behavior on a new project file. If the issue is file specific, would you be willing to share a copy of your project file here or in private by opening a support case so we can take a closer look at what's happening? We'll delete it when we're done testing!

  • Hi Joe and Steven,

I went ahead and upgraded my SL. The problem seems to be resolved. Long strings are now an acceptable size. I was going to try to recreate the interaction on my own, but after realizing how much is going on there, and how little time I have, I thought better of it. lol.

    Thanks for your help.

      Hi Alan!

      You're welcome!

I'm glad to hear updating to the current version of Storyline 360 resolved your issue! I wanted to follow up and share that it looks like this behavior is related to a known bug our development team is tracking where:

      • Font size on Sequence Drag and Drop answer choices are displayed very small when previewed or when viewing the published course if the slide size is 1920x1080.

Not to worry! Our team is currently working on a fix, and we'll be sure to update this discussion as soon as we have any news to share!

In the meantime, as a workaround, we recommend using 4:3 or 16:9 Story slide sizes (default).

I'm using 1920 x 1080 but with the update it appears to have resolved. Thanks for the response! It is so nice to get an actual helpful human response to a question on a software forum and not just a circular run-around from a chatbot. Lol. That's certainly a key feature that makes Articulate products stand out.
        Thanks again.
        Alan
