Updates/ New Version Corrupting Old Storylines?
I have been creating Articulate 360 trainings for the past two years. We have a bank of trainings now that need occasional updating of information. I have noticed that when trying to update some of the older trainings, I have encountered the following issues:
1. Deleting and adding new triggers do not work when updating previous trainings
2. I am getting an error message when publishing as LMS (although publishing in review works)
3. Question slides that are copied and pasted from previous into new trainings no longer work (i.e. the layers for correct/incorrect responses do not show up)
Is there a new version or update to Articulate Storyline that does not recognize or work with previous versions? And, is there a way to open Storyline in a previous version when working with older storylines?
Hi Tania,
I'm sorry to hear about the issues that you encountered while upgrading your projects. I'd like to ask a few questions to get a better understanding of what happened:
- Are your trainings currently saved in a network drive?
- If yes, do you open the project files directly from the network drive when updating and editing the courses? We generally recommend moving files to a local directory first before opening them in Storyline 360, since working directly on a network drive has been known to cause issues.
- Were your previous trainings created in Storyline 360, or were they created in other versions of Storyline (1,2, or 3)?
If you're already working locally, try doing a repair of Storyline 360 to see if this helps. If the issue persists, please feel free to reach out to our support team here for further assistance.

Hi Joe,
Thank you for getting back to me-Responses to you're questions below:
- Are your trainings currently saved in a network drive? Some of them are on a network drive and some of them are saved to a OneDrive cloud.
- If yes, do you open the project files directly from the network drive when updating and editing the courses? I have tried moving them to my desktop to work from there, but this did not resolve the issue. We generally recommend moving files to a local directory first before opening them in Storyline 360, since working directly on a network drive has been known to cause issues.
- Were your previous trainings created in Storyline 360, or were they created in other versions of Storyline (1,2, or 3)? I think they were all created in Storyline 360 (with the oldest versions being created in March 2020)
If you're already working locally, try doing a repair of Storyline 360 to see if this helps. If the issue persists, please feel free to reach out to our support team here for further assistance. I will try the repair and see if that fixes the issue.

my whole work group has been experiencing HUGE problems with the 'Red X of Death' lately. For me, it seems to happen when i am working with graphics. Initially we thought it was something with the new laptop one of us got. but it is doing the same thing now, randomly, for all three of us. No, we are not working off the cloud or a network drive -- we store the .story files on SharePoint, but we download to our laptops and then open them up to work on.
It reminds of the time, in the past before i knew better, that i tried to edit directly off the network drive.

Hi, Janet.
You mentioned this is happening to others in your team as well. Are all of you working on the same project, or is this happening in various .story files?
If a quick repair of Storyline doesn't solve this issue, then can you reach out to our support engineers so we can investigate what's happening?
