Failure and Success layers not displaying on Results Slide
Sep 09, 2013
Hi, I have an issue I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced, as this is one of the first courses we've done in Storyline. I have 6 quiz questions throughout my course, and a results slide at the end. On the results slide I have the Success and Failure layers set up to display based on overall score (80% or more, Success. Less than 80%, Failure). Well, for most users the Success and Failure layers work just fine, but for others they are not displaying at all. The Your Score and Passing Score display fine on the Results slide, just not the Success or Failure layer. Therefore users weren’t able to complete the course, as I had buttons on the Success and Failure layers to either complete course (if passed) or restart (if failed).
For now I fixed it (hopefully …) by putting a “Click here to Complete” button on the Results slide itself, with variables as to what it does depending if they pass or fail, but I can’t figure out why some people are not getting the layers to display. I haven’t had problems, nor have my co-workers, but we did do a desktop share with one user and witnessed it. If I had some setting wrong, I assume it wouldn’t work for anyone.? I’m thinking maybe it’s a security or settings thing on our systems (we are not all set up the same; some have more access rights to their system than others), but wanted to check and see if there is something else I’m missing.
Thanks,
Mary

Hi, Mary and welcome to the forums. I'm with you: this sounds like something idiosyncratic happening on some of your learners' computers.
Just for kicks, you might create a new dummy T/F quiz (in a new file) with a few questions, put it on the LMS or whatever and see if you can replicate the issue. But again, my gut says there's not much you can change here. Perhaps others will have more suggestions. --Daniel
Thanks Daniel. I guess I just wanted to double check my gut
Unfortunately it looks like my fix didn't work either, at least for one learner I talked to. I'll try your suggestion of creating a separate quiz and see, but I'm guessing I'll have to escalate this to our IT department. I'm just afraid the answer will be "Don't use Storyline."
Hi Mary! I wanted to pop in and welcome you to E-Learning Heroes! Please let us know what you find out in your further testing as well. Don't forget that you can utilize our support team as well
FYI - this was an issue specific to users with Flash version10.0.45 (see this thread). When I updated our Storyline to update 4 and republished, this issue was fixed.
Thanks Mary for updating the thread.
Hmm. It's six years later and I have the same issue: Users (many but not most) get stuck on a blank screen after an interaction because the success/failure layers do not display, and it's far beyond that next version of Flash so...
Any thoughts?
Hi Sandi,
Thanks for letting us know that you're running into a similar issue.
It's been a while since we've seen a similar issue. With your permission, I'd like to take a look at your project file to investigate what's happening. You can share it publicly here, or send it to me privately by uploading it here. I'll delete it when I'm done troubleshooting.
Thanks for the reply. A case was opened to help resolve the issue: #02328939. Still working on it!
-Sandra.
Perfect! Thanks for the update, Sandi. You're in great hands with Ronaziel :)
