Embed block not recognizing anchors in URLs

Here is a URL to be embedded in a lesson:  http://laws.gnb.ca/fr/showfulldoc/cs/O-0.2/#anchorga:s_8.  The URL contains an anchor so that the user will be taken to a specific location on the webpage.

  • When I insert this link in an embed block, the page anchor is not recognized and the user is taken to the top of the webpage.
  • When I insert the same link in a button block, the anchor works and the user is taken to the exact location on the page.

Why is the anchor not recognized in an embed block?

Hi JC,

Thanks for posting here and reaching out.

The way we embed links in that block will remove any anchors associated, so that is why the two lesson types are behaving differently. We have shared this with our team, and they've indicated that it's currently working as expected, but we'll continue to keep an eye on how this is impacting folks!

In the meantime you can look at using a secure iframe to embed it - which would look like: <iframe src=“YOUR LINK”></iframe>  Make sure that it's accessible over HTTPS.

Is  the term "embed" being used correctly here? It seems to me that  the "video"  block is really embedding  the video (actually placing the video file) into the course. The "embed block" really just links to the video. I know this may be picky but we've had confusion here around the terminology.
