trouble embedding iframe
Aug 15, 2017
Hello,
This is a two-part question:
1) I have a public mindmap template that I'd like to embed as an iframe to maintain its interactivity on Rise. But for some reason it's not recognizing it as a valid code. Am I doing something wrong by choosing the "Embed" function? Here's the iframe code:
<iframe width="600" height="400" frameborder="0" src="https://www.mindmeister.com/maps/public_map_shell/937387671/brainstorming?width=600&height=400&z=auto" scrolling="no" style="overflow: hidden; margin-bottom: 5px;">Your browser is not able to display frames. Please visit <a href="https://www.mindmeister.com/937387671/brainstorming" target="_blank">Brainstorming</a> on MindMeister.</iframe><div class="mb-5"><a href="https://www.mindmeister.com/937387671/brainstorming" target="_blank">Brainstorming</a> by <a href="https://www.mindmeister.com/users/channel/25887585" target="_blank">Andrew Ratner</a></div>
2) Is it actually possible to maintain interactivity of web content on Rise, or will they always be published as just an external link?
Thanks so much!

I am trying to use the iframe function and getting the message, "YouTube.com refused to connect."
I am using this code in Rise: <iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ow6NnVIxvGE"></iframe>
with straight quotes.
Hi Vicki,
I'm seeing the same problem, and it looks like it could be an issue with Embedly not liking the format of the YouTube link.
I was able to successfully embed the video using the Youtube generated embed code:
Give that one a try, and let me know if it works for you!
It does work with the extra coding, Alyss, but do you know why it doesn't work as it should?
Hi there, Vickie. The initial URL you used had
/watch/
rather than/embed/
. If you enter that URL without the iframe coding, it will work. To use the iframe coding, however, you'll need to use YouTube's embed code instead.aha! Ok, thank you.
Hi there,
Another newbie here. Could anyone clarify if iframe is the same as web object in Storyline 360? I am using the web object and pasting the link, but some slides don't open it after I publish, unless I choose the option to open it in another tab and I need it to open within the slide. Any suggestions? All I do is insert a web object and I paste the link. Thanks. Stef
Hi Stefaniada,
Happy to help! A web object in Storyline is essentially the same as an iframe.
There could be a few reasons why your web object isn't displaying when you publish, but if it's playing when you open it in a new window/tab, then it could be that the hosting website isn't allowing viewing in an iframe.
Take a look at this article for more details!
Thank you, Ren!
Hello, I am unable to embed a Mind Meister mind map, this is my embed code:
<iframe src="https://www.mindmeister.com/1535508028"></iframe>
I get a gray screen that says refused to connect, what am I doing wrong?
Hi Edith!
It looks like you used the correct embed code, but Mind Meister is preventing their content from being embedded in a frame.
I would suggest adding only the URL to the multimedia embed block, not the full embed code.
Hi Alyssa,
Thank you for getting back to me so quickly! I tired the direct link and it displays in my course but I am unable to interact with the map it. When I click on it it send me out to the Mind Meister website. I don't want for my students to leave the course I want to keep them in it at all times.
Hi Edith,
Thanks for your reply! It looks like Mind Meister is blocking their content from being embedded in iframes.
Because of that, your only option is to do what you've shown in your screenshot. Learners will have to click the link to view the mind map outside of the Rise 360 course.
I am wondering if there is a way to place in portions of a YouTube video not the entire video? I can load the whole video but only really want 3 separate small parts of the video.
Thank you!
Hi Ashley,
You can specify the start and end time of a YouTube video:
youtube.com/embed/e8QtsyNXvFg?start=50&end=59
Note this does not work for all YT videos.
I have that part. When I go to insert the video into storyline I receive an error stating "a video cannot be inserted from this embed code. Verify that the embed code is correct and then try again."
Ideas?
I don't currently have Storyline installed, but this works in Rise:
<iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/e8QtsyNXvFg?start=50&end=59"></iframe>
I am trying to embed the following code but I don't get the media appearing inh my course I still see the code. Am I missing something? ive set the media to public so anyone can see it.
<iframe width="654" height="572" data-original-width="654" data-original-height="572" src="https://www.thinglink.com/card/1362714884852154369" type="text/html" frameborder="0" webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen scrolling="no"></iframe><script async src="//cdn.thinglink.me/jse/responsive.js"></script></iframe>
Hi Sheryl! Try this simplified iframe code, and let me know if it works for you!
<iframe src="https://www.thinglink.com/card/1362714884852154369"></iframe>
