I am able to insert a gif but can't find a way to have the gif take up the entire space for the image. Instead, the gif is centered within a black frame. See attached screen grab.
I've experimented using online gif converters to change the gif dimensions but nothing seems to work.
Can you share the gif? Where did you get it or how was it created?
Generally speaking when you see solid black that usually means it's a transparent area. Without seeing the gif it's hard to know what it is or the issue you have.
You can use this tool, Screentogif, to open the gif and edit it. It's free and better than those online converters.
I looked at the gif and the black bars are part of the gif.
You'd need to go back into Camtasia and figure out what you did so that you can remove the black bars. I suspect you cropped or sized the image inside of it's recording resolution which created the black area.
Connect with the support team at TechSmith. They have a very helpful and responsive community and can probably help you figure out what's going on in Camtasia.

Thanks for your help, Tom.
I created a video using Camtasia and exported it as a gif, attached. I am not well versed in Camtasia.
Unfortunately, our corporate IT folks lock our desktops so I'm not able to install Screentogif.
