Resume course in Rise SCORM

Mar 13, 2018

Does Rise have the capability of maintaining user completion information after a refresh of the SCORM file?

e.g. We are a software company and have our Foundational training courses in Rise.  We revise these every 2-3 months with our software product updates.

For users who are in progress on our courses, will this wipe out their existing completion data?  I know we don't have that issue in Storyline... but seeing it happening in Rise...

SO wondering if there is something we can 'tweak' to make the course resume where the user left off even after refreshing the SCORM file?

Thanks for reaching out to us about this, Mary Beth. It sounds like you have already replaced a Rise SCORM file in your LMS, and doing so wiped completion data. Is that what you're seeing? If so, what LMS are you using?

Our team is investigating this behavior, and any further details you can share about your experience would be helpful. Thank you!

Hi Mary Beth & Alyssa,

We are in a situation where we may need to update and replace a RISE course in our LMS, SCORM 1.2.  This is for a course that's been distributed to 1000's of people.  We are slightly reluctant to do this based on the issue that Mary Beth previously reported with the completion data being wiped.  Can you please advise if it's a known issue with RISE courses?

This is the first course we have developed in RISE so it's new ground for us.  We've replaced many Storyline2 courses in the past without completion data being affected.

Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Steven

Hi, Steven. Thanks for reaching out – I'm happy to lend a hand!

Just a quick note that when you update/overwrite existing course files in your LMS, learners who previously started the course won't be able to resume where they left off.

To help us dig deeper, can you first share with us:

  • What LMS are you using?
  • I'm not sure if you had a chance to update previous Rise courses, but if yes – can I confirm if it appeared blank, if data was removed, or both?
  • Are we able to receive access to your LMS for testing/to see how it's configured? If you're able to share some credentials to your LMS so that we can take a closer look, I'll start a Support case for you to privately share that information.

I'll be standing by!

Hi Katie,

When we replace an existing Rise course in our LMS (Meridian), if a user has progress on the course they typically get a blank screen when they try to resume.  In order to resolve this, I have to reset their progress in the LMS, which forces them to open a new attempt on the course.

We've never had this issue with other Articulate products (Presenter '09, Storyline I & II) so we'd like to see it resolved. We're in a similar situation as Steve Hotson, above. I can send you a sample file if you can remind me of the secure link.

Thanks

Hi Pam,

I'd like to get a better idea of what's going on. Are you...

  1. Replacing a Rise course inside your LMS with a revised version of the same Rise course?

    -OR-
  2. Replacing a Rise course inside your LMS with a different Rise course or a duplicated copy of your original Rise course?

Here's a rundown from my colleague Ashley on what we would expect to happen in both of those scenarios.
