In this cool demo, learners answer questions and then receive a printable record to refer back to later. (Click the "workbook" button to see the printable.) Learn more about how it was created in this tutorial.
I'm glad you like it Yael and Carlene!
Carlene, emailing the information out of the course is a good option, however, it doesn't have quite the same level of control as this solution does.
That being said, using JavaScript to generate emails from within Storyline it works well in most cases (although there are some email clients that don't support it). Being able to ass variables from Storyline to the email and also grab other info (such as system info etc.) to help with troubleshooting and testing can be really helpful.
HI Matthew! I definitely need a bit more practice, it is very useful.
I've only used it once or twice so far and i'm still learning java script. We normally provide blank PDF templates at the end but it would be far more beneficial if learners filled them out and had their personalised ones at the end like in your example.
I will be using your demo to add a print button to the goals exercise in this: https://www.escholar.manchester.ac.uk/learning-objects/mle/goal-setting/
Thanks again :)
Hi Lizzie,
The demo and tutorial have been updated so the line breaks work again. Just grab the updated files and drop them in your project and you should be good to go.
Hi Matthew, this is a great post - thank you for sharing. In Carlene's example the html output file includes line breaks. Do you know how she achieved that? She hasn't replied to Lizzie's query so I'm reaching out to you hopefully!
Hi Sue,
Thanks for your feedback! The demo and tutorial has been updated so now the line breaks work again. Just grab the updated files, drop them in your project and you should be good to go.
Thank you so much Matthew. That's really useful.
Best wishes,
Sue

Apologies Id missed the email notifications. If you copy and paste the following address into your browser you can see the source code. I used regex to tidy up the user input and add in line breaks with

I don't think there is anyway to hijack the browsers print command to force it to save as a PDF. However, if you need to create a PDF, this thread might be of interest to you:

Is it possible to print also numeric variables using this dynamic workbook? Or is it possible to pass the value of a numeric variable to a text variable? Thanks for the very nice solution!
Hi Matthew,
I've used this successfully in the past, thanks so much for your tutorial and answering follow up questions. I know this was for Storyline 2. I'm curious if you've tried using this in Rise as well by embedding a Storyline file. Currently, there isn't a text entry option in Rise, I'm wondering if I inserted storyline files in lessons in Rise, is there a way to pass that information to the LMS or something in order for it to print as one notebook at the end? Perhaps one of your other tutorials would help with this. Curious if you've tried anything similar. Thanks!
