A grid is a layout created with intersecting horizontal and vertical lines, which you can use to structure content and organize graphic elements, such as images and text. Widely used by print and graphic design professionals, grids are a great visual design tool for e-learning developers as well, helping ensure that slide content is laid out in an organized and consistent fashion.

Apply Gridlines in Storyline

You can easily apply a grid to your design in Storyline by going to the View tab on the ribbon and checking the Gridlines option.

When you apply a grid to your Storyline design, you’ll see a series of dotted horizontal and vertical lines that appear in your slide.

Click the small arrow beneath the Gridlines option in the ribbon to open the Grids and Guides properties window. Here, you can edit the size of your grid by increasing or decreasing the spacing. Additionally, you can make the objects on the slide snap to the grid or snap to other objects.

Using Grids: Before and After

Have a peek at this before-and-after of a three-column layout to see how a grid really improves the white space of the slide designs. Notice how the second image has more white space, which is also evenly distributed between the columns. Together, these give the design more breathing room and make it look less squished together.
