So finally Articulate has decided to provide universal ADAPTIVE player in the published HTML5 output which is being provided by other players like iSpring and Adobe Presenter since more than 2 years ago.
In fact I was always surprised that why Articulate provided only a single layout player for all device platforms.
I hope the quality and practicality of the update compensates with the long wait and makes it totally worth..!
I have been using Articulate products for the past 8 years and have been a huge fan. The adaptive player issue led me to start using Ispring this past spring. I have a huge library of content so migrating from one platform to another is very time-consuming. I think I am like a lot of content developers, it would have been helpful to have some notice about the sweeping new changes as it is not easy going from one Authorware to another.
Thats true Steve. Its difficult to manage jumping from PPT development platform to a Standalone free form tool all of a sudden and vice versa. I faced this issue when I switched from Captivate 7 to PowerPoint Tools. Working on a timeline and working on a Sync Manager are two really different things. But now its perfect as I have got used to it.
The majority of learning audience has gone mobile. So the requirement of a Universal adaptive player is inevitable. Articulate being a leader in authoring tools has surely disappointed till date at least in this area. All the courses which I developed in Storyline 1 & 2 suffered with a huge reduction in learning reception as their published outputs didn't do well in mobile browsers since they came up with same player that works on a PC. All the courses which I developed in Storyline 1 & 2 suffered with a huge reduction in learning reception as their published outputs didn't do well in mobile browsers since they came up with same player that works on a PC. Other tools like iSpring, Lectora, Adobe Captivate & Presenter have implemented it long back. With time and experience, I personally have arrived to a conclusion that a PowerPoint E-Learning authoring add-in is essential. As PowerPoint gives a lot of flexibility and an integrated environment. And the biggest plus is that its easy to restore and recover a PPT project. Otherwise if I recall the tragedy I had with Captivate when few of my project files crashed, it was hell of a nightmare recovering them. In fact few projects couldn't be recovered and I had to rework them from scratch. Similar thing happened later with Storyline too.
iSpring has been doing really well for me. See a multi device course sample which I've made using iSpring:

Feedback appreciated Steve. :-)
Great example. For me I have courses published in articulate presenter and began migrating all of them to ispring because of the player issue. that was time consuming but not a huge workaround since both were in PowerPoint
I have about 50 courses in storyline and converting those is more problematic. I basically have to rebuild the whole course. So I will be anxious to see what articulate comes up with. One side note on the "cashew" incident. One of the great benefits of articulate is the awesome community. It is an insult to the community that someone would use the sharing forum to tout a competitive product.
As a graphic designer working as an instructional designer -- I want MAC friendly -- with the ability to integrate NATIVE files from Photoshop, Illustrator, Animate and After Effects
REAL flexibility WITHOUT all the limitations!!!
The biggest challenge I have in developing courseware is accessibility. I truly hope Flash plays less of a role in the flagship software and HTML5 is fully integrated with 508 compliance.
Hopefully it will not be a subscription based system. Otherwise our universities in germany could not buy it anymore. They were not allowed to sign up for subscriptions ... :-/ That's why we had to terminate the contract with Adobe.
Hi Martin. That's interesting. Although Adobe offers the subscription based service, you can still buy Captivate with a full license. I just checked and you can choose between the subscription and a full/upgrade license. Assuming Articulate is headed in the same direction, I image they will have a similar offering.
Agreed Martin. Even some of us in the US upon whom the whole burden of the development lies, including the financing of the tools just cannot do subscription based development :(.
I smell a content provider agreement somewhere. Maybe an asset library pass-thru from eLearning brothers? Maybe multi-device authoring and preview? Maybe HTML5 content that works sans-required app for iDevices? Perhaps a new Storyline authoring or prototyping app?
My only concern is the begging and pleading that I will have to do with my info security team if there is too much cloud integration (All you Adobe CC people know what I mean).
...i certainly hope for a Mac version too. Im a graphic designer and been working with Macs for 25yrs now. Ive emailed Articulate staff quite a few times and explaining that our IT group has stopped upgrading our Parallels and at one point our MacOS will not support older versions of Parallels and we will be in deep waters. And purchasing PCs and new Adobe suite for all of us here is not an option. Articulate definitely heard us and many other people like us. They dont want to lose us so im sure they came up with something for all. Although they were very tight lipped, i kinda got a very good impression that they would not be rolling out a Mac version but "something else" (more like a cloud version, thats my thought). yes actually it would make sense. We are concerned that what if their servers have an outage or something like that, "all engines stop" for everyone,. Not good for production, deadlines....and business.
I just received an email that I believe to be spam. Has anyone else received this or is it a fluke that I am the only one who received it? Please comment if you received it. I wish this forum did not show our last name. Not sure how they got my email. Here is what the body shows:
Hey,
Surprise! We're launching a huge competitor to Articulate in a few weeks. Super impressive, amazing user experience, pure HTML5 output. A very worthy competitor, if not better. You will be impressed. What timing, eh?!
More info at !@#$!#$%.com. I'll personally answer any questions.
I also received it.

Hi Tony! I'm sorry for the trouble. You can edit your profile by clicking on your profile in the top right corner and clicking "My Profile" and then click "Edit Profile". You're not required to use your full last name in the last name field - you can use an initial if you wish!
I Googled the nut email people. It's some company that is building an application that they are touting for the Mac platform. I believe someone on the forum has decided to try to poach people from the forum for their new product. Not cool.
Hi all! We’re so sorry for the unwanted emails you received. We’re taking action to ban that user from our forums. We also wanted to make sure you knew you can opt out of letting folks contact you through E-Learning Heroes by editing your profile and unchecking the box next to “Allow members to contact me”.
Thanks Kelly for all the quick responses from you and your team members. I like being able to contact others via the forums. My question, do others see our email when contacting another on the forum? Keep up the great work!
Hi Keith! No, they don't. They see an email form and we forward it to your inbox. The only way they can see your email is if you respond to their message from your email account.
Thanks Kelly! I am sure most here feel the same way, who would do business with spammers! UGH!! Now that Articulate is on top of it and it's behind us. How about another teaser for the weekend?
For those of you who haven't seen this, I wanted to share this masterpiece created by Richard Hill--
this is what is possible NOW:
