Next button in labeled graphics Articulate '13

Oct 20, 2015

Am trying the trial version of A'13 and see that now the NEXT button moves through the labeled graphic interaction rather than to the next screen. I see a very long discussion of this here....has there been a resolution?

In Properties that display within the presenter I see a choice regarding how the next/prev button functions but it's grayed out. Should I be able to change that setting....if so, how?

Thanks!

Hi Carrie,

Did you review the article here on how to control the next button?  I copied the relevant section below for the "greyed out" button below:

The Prev/Next player buttons go to property in Presenter will only work when the interaction's playback mode is set to Interactive and the corresponding box to Show previous/next buttons is marked.

If the button property in Presenter is grayed out, it indicates one of the following is true:

  • The interaction's playback mode is set to Interactive, but Show previous/next buttons is unchecked.
  • The interaction's playback mode is set to Linear.
  • The interaction's playback mode is set to Presentation.
  • The course was created in an earlier version of Studio '13 and then updated. (See the next section.)

I see the choice for  'Prev/next' buttons goes to....' in properties in the Presenter but not in Engage itself, and in Presenter it's grayed out, but I see that works in a new file.

I'm using the trial version and it says I have Build 1509.1618 which is apparently the latest. This interaction was created in '09 and I brought it into '13. Is that likely the issue?

Hi Carrie,

Can you check the Engage interaction to see what the properties are there? It should look like the image I shared above. You mentioned it works in a new file - with the same Engage interaction added or just a standard Presenter course?

Also, the trial version is a full version of the software, so that shouldn't be contributing to the behavior. But you did mention the earlier version of Engage, but did you update it to Engage/Studio '13 after update 3 as the article mentioned?

Yeah, I'm seeing what you show above in both Presenter and Engage, but that's just controlling whether the next/prev buttons appear....but in Presenter, I see the choice I need..."Prev/Next player buttons go to:"

But when I click EDIT PROPERTIES, that choice is grayed out...

And it I open the interaction in Engage, I don't see that option....

But if I start a brand new three screen file, I can choose Next slide in presentation for ..."Prev/Next player buttons go to:" I REALLY don't want to have to re-do these interactions...6 or so, so at this point I will wait for my trial to end in 10 days and go back to the backup version for '09.

And it looks like I will be recommending that we move forward with SL and abandon Articulate '13. It's been too painful to try to migrate this one current project to '13 much less all previous ones.

Unless you have more ideas??  ;-)

Hi Carrie,

Thanks for sharing those screenshots to demonstrate the properties as that all looks like it would work. As mentioned, if they were created with an earlier update that could be a part of the issue you're running into - but we're happy to take a further look if you'd like to share the Presenter package with our team here.

Haha - you can always ask another question or start a new thread!

You could look at placing the graphic inside a scrolling panel - or what about adding it to a web server and then inserting as a web object? There aren't other scroll mechanics in Storyline that I can think to share here - but perhaps someone in the community will see this thread and be able to share other thoughts.
