Audio on Slides

Jun 11, 2012

Hello - I was wondering if anyone could help me. I am building a course in Articulate Presenter that has audio on the slides, but as it is not a linear course delegates can go back and forth from slide to slide. So my question is, is there a way to have the audio only play the first time someone looks at the slide? I dont want it to start each time they return to a slide.

Hope this makes sense, I look forward to any suggestions.

Kind Regards,

Olivia

Hi Olivia, and welcome to Heroes!

There isn't currently a feature in Presenter which would prevent the audio from playing on a slide when users return to it. A common technique is to create a duplicate of the slide, remove the audio from it, and use that slide as the ones which users can return to. This probably isn't practical if you're talking about lots of slides, but on key slides that a user always comes back to (such as a menu slide), it works pretty well.

For example, say you have a menu slide which you don't want learners to have to listen to the audio every time they come return to it. You could create a duplicate of the menu slide, delete its audio, and then anytime you hyperlink back to the menu, you'd hyperlink to the non-audio version. If you have a sidebar menu in your course, you might also want to use the Slide Properties to hide the audio version from appearing in the menu... that way if learners click the sidebar to jump back to the menu at any time, they'll see the non-audio version.

You'd also want to use your slide properties to set up the branching behavior on the slides before/after the duplicate non-audio, o prevent learners from arriving at it simply by hitting the Next or Previous button.

Here's an example: http://elearning-examples.s3.amazonaws.com/ppt-video/energy-demo/player.html

In that course, when you launch the course and then click the forward button, you see a menu, and it has audio. But if the learner returns to the menu later, either from a different slide in the course or by clicking on the MENU option in the sidebar, they see the non-audio version.

The branching in the slide properties looks like this:
