Audio quality

Mar 23, 2011

I am creating several modules using Presenter.

Someone else is creating the audio files and sending them to me as wav files -- which I have been importing into the presentation. When I click on the files she sent me, the quality sounds pretty good but once I import them and publish the course - the sound is very faint - even when all of the volume controls are turned up.

I don't know how to address this issue. Can you please help?

Thank you!

Hi F C,

If your published audio does not sound as good as the audio that you imported or recorded it is likely due to the fact that Articulate generates MP3 files to create the slide SWF files. Please see the following article for more details:

There are third party tools that you can use to increase the quality of your audio. Here are some articles and tutorials to help you out:

Thanks Justin and Brian!

I just made these changes - does increasing the bitrate affect the file size? I'm asking because my audience includes some users with low-bandwidth.

Also, should I have my narrator send me the files as MP3's right off the bat, instead of wav files? I was wondering if that makes a difference.

Thank you!

Hi Fiona,

Yes, increasing the bitrate will increase the file size.

Also, I would recommend having your narrator send the WAV files.  This will allow you complete control over the quality of the audio.  In other words, it's easier to change the audio quality of a full blown WAV file that it is to increase the audio quality of a 64kpbs MP3 file (which is impossible to do with further degradation).
