Browser Requirements

Jul 19, 2012

Hi there - can anyone point me to where I can find the minimum requirements for each browser for playing courses from oue LMS? I am specifically having trouble with Firefox 7.

Many Thanks,

Shaz

Welcome to Heroes, Shaz!

As far as minimum viewing requirements go, Flash Player 6.0.79 or later (http://www.adobe.com/go/getflash) (Flash Player 7 or later recommended), and one of the following browsers are needed:

  • Windows: Internet Explorer 6 and later, Firefox 1.x and later, Safari 3 and later, Google Chrome, Opera 9.5 and later
  • Macintosh: Safari 3 and later, Firefox 1.x and later, Google Chrome
  • Linux: Firefox 1.x and later

So Firefox 7 shouldn't be the issue. Can you tell us a little more about what specific trouble you're having? Any error messages or screenshots you can share? Thanks!

Hi Peter many thanks for your response.

I received the attached from our client earlier, so I'll forward the information you have sent. I'm sure it'll be very helpful. I can't attach the screen shot here so I've emailed it to you.

No joy with the free tour I’m afraid – it just hangs on a blank screen; see below:

We’re running Firefox 7 – I know that’s a bit dated but some of our clients run this as standard too. I have tested one of your courses in FF 13 which works so we’re just wondering if we need to communicate specific minimum specs to our users. All of our courses run through FF versions 2 and above on Windows but only from version 8 and above on Macs. Whilst I’m here – our American brand clients mostly use Macs with Safari and/or Chrome. Any information on compatibility with these would be great.

HI again Shaz,

Thanks for the screenshot - I received it. Another thought: Since they see only a blank window when launching a course in your LMS, the issue may be related to the specific version of Java Runtime Environment you have installed. This article has more information.

You're always welcome to submit a support case, as well. Let us know how it goes...

Thanks!

Hi Peter and Shaz - your discussion inspired me to write a browser compatibility test for Articulate Presenter using BrowserHawk IQ.  See this topic: http://community.articulate.com/forums/t/15924.aspx .  BH IQ will gather details about the browser and system and help find the root cause behind browser oddities like you ran into here.  Hope this helps!
