I have a colleague who is having trouble zipping files when she publishes for LMS. Sometimes the files zip and sometimes the folder opens but there is no zip file in it. This started happening recently and we can't determine the root cause. Any ideas?
Thanks everyone. I think it's the network drive. Our IT removed access to our C drives so we have to save everything on a network drive now. This user can zip sometimes, but not others and we have ruled out the file length and special characters. I will ask her about the .zia file.... thanks for that information.
Assuming that it's the network drive... does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the best results if we are limited to this? I have never had a problem zipping and I am restricted to using my network drive too. It's frustrating that only some users have problems some of the time...and it's hard to know how to help them. Many of these people are not tech-savvy.
Hi Deb, if you can navigate to the network drive using Windows Explorer, try to see if you manually ZIP the published out put there. You probably know how to do that, but in case you don't... select the published files with the output folder by pressing ctrl-A. Right click to open the menu. Select "Send to," then select "Compressed (zipped) folder."
If you get a ZIP file, it's name will reflect the filename of one of the ZIPPED files. Just rename the ZIP file as needed for your LMS team.
Dave - thanks. That's what I suggested to this person as a workaround. I appreciate your input - looks like that's going to be the best option for us. Have a great day!!

the main reasons for this can be
Saving to a network drive or USB drive
Filepath length of the resulting zip file is larger than 256 characters
Otherwise it may be something wrong with windows can she create zip files normally?
Hi Deb! Looks like Phil is taking care of you here. Just let us know if you need anything further.
Just to add to Phil's post... if you see a file in the expected destination folder with the extension "zia" then that's a sure sign.
that is a great point, thanks Dave
