Converting Articulate course to mp4 file

Mar 30, 2011

I am going to convert a lot of my training modules into an mp4 format so that people can play the training on their portable devices.  I know I can screen capture the presentation using Screenr or Camtasia and produce it that way, but I'm not going to take the time to do that for as many courses as I have.  What I used to do in the first version of Articulate was go to the output folder, click on data, and swf.  Every slide has its own flash file, for instance, slide1.swf, slide2.swf, etc.  I would simply import those files back to back on a timeline in another software.  The swf file included my slide, all animations and audio.  I could then just quickly and simply produce the movie in whatever format I wanted.  I just tried the same thing in the newest version of Articulate.  It appears that the audio is no longer assoicated with the flash file for some reason.  So, I went to the audio editor timeline, exported all of the audio which is simple enough, and then in my other software, imported all my swf files in the video track in order and imported all of my audio files in the audio track below that, in order of course.  Unfortunately, the timing gets slightly off using this method.  The duration of the swf and the wav files per slide are not exactly the same as you would expect, causing me to have to go into editing mode to produce the mp4 movie, which I don't have the time to do for each one of these.  Is there any reason the flash files no longer contain the audio?  Can anybody think of a work around to produce these quickly without screen capturing or editing?  That would be a FANTASTIC option in the next version of Articulate, to be able to produce a presentation in an mp4/m4v format!  Thanks for reading!  Have a great day everybody.

I can't see where publishing for an LMS makes any difference. From what I can tell all that changes is that files to support the chosen standard are added -- including a standard specific launch page. Nothing else changes.

When you "play" the individual swf files -- they do not have audio? These are standard pages built up in PPT with audio editable by the audio editor?

Well, at least I have figured out that this is NOT an Articulate issue.  When I play the individual flash files with Internet Explorer from the Articulate output files, the audio IS there.  It's not until I import it into Ulead, which I was using to accomplish this task, that the audio goes away.  Still searching for the answer.....

Hi Brock,

It sounds like your LMS's hosting server may be blocking the MP3 file type.  Can you check with your hosting provide to see that the MP3 mime type is properly configured?
