Does anyone else get errors/crashes when publishing?

Apr 19, 2011

This is starting to really bug me now because the same issue appears probably once every three to four publishes (to LMS) and costs me 15-25 minutes a time.  Would perhaps be bearable if I didn't have 15 freshly revised modules to publish in the next 24 hours.  So far I've managed about 6 today, with another 6 just crashing.

Here's what happens:

Publish to LMS as normal ... green bars start doing their thing ... then "Microsoft PPT has stopped working > Windows is collecting more information ..." appears and PPT crashes and needs to be restarted.  This morning I even got a new error on top "There was an error copying the player files.  Error Code 120".

Am running Studio 9 (patched) on Win 7 64bit with PPT 2007.  Had identical errors when publishing on Vista 64bit with a different copy of PPT 2007.  Have since tried yet another version of PPT but this hasn't fixed it.  Also remember it happening on Vista 32 bit last year.

The error can appear at any time - even right at the end when optimising.  Have tried keeping my machine active by browsing/using other apps etc, and have kept it idle while keeping an eye on it.  Neither makes any difference.  So I'm guessing nothing performance related (i5 3.8Ghz, 8Gb etc) is having an impact.  Must be software-related?

Courses are typically 60-100 slides long.

Anyone else having this issue?  And do any of you guys at Articulate come across this?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Simon,

Would you mind uploading your project file to me so that I can see if I can replicate the issue?

Please create an Articulate Presenter package, then upload the zip file to our server. You can review how to do this here:

Send to Articulate Presenter Package – Articulate Presenter ’09 Help

Upload the resulting zip file from your computer to our server using this upload form:

Articulate Support - Upload Your Files for Review

In the case subject, put Attention Brian Batt and the file will come straight to me.  I'll check it out as soon as I get it.

Thanks for the offer Brian .. however, this issue can appear literally on any course; whether it be a 25 slide 5 minute publish or a 100+ slide 30 minute publish.

Have attached some images this time; a couple of which are generic error popups whilst the others are more specific to Articulate.

Can also send a copy of the "Files the help describe the problem" if that helps?

Either way, do any of the pics shed any light on this?  Had 3-4 crashes again this morning, a couple of which occurred right at the end of a 25 min publishing.  Not good.

Thanks

Hi Simon,

From my experience, the issues that you've indicated are caused by a corrupt installation of Office.  I'd recommend uninstalling it, restarting your computer, reinstalling Office, and then checking for the most recent updates to Office (including service packs).  After that, repair your normal.dot file by using the method described in the link below:

Cheers Brian.  I'll probably just try the normal.dotm thing first and work backwards if that doesn't fix it.  May save me doing a full re-install.

BTW,if it comes down to reinstalling AP on top, what happens to player templates and QM templates etc?  Do they get overwritten?  Or can they be 'moved' out of the way and then added back?

Thanks

The other buggy thing that happens is a load of green bars suddenly merge in with the left hand side of the PPT window.  Can't do anything about it other than just shut down PPT.  No error messages etc.  Just green-barred weirdness ...

This isn't a random thing ... I have a brand new machine, brand new install of Studio9 as well as a brand new office 2007 install. I get these green bars too... As well as the error code...

I don't recall the green bars but I received a message while publishing as well. The message reads "There was an error copying player files. Error code: 120"

I am running Windows 7, PowerPoint 2010 and Articulate Presenter 9. The morning this happened I received a pop-up message to upgrade Articulate to a next minor version. I accpeted the update. My version number is as follows V6.3.1303.2214Pro.

Hi Pat,

That message might indicate one or more of the following:

  • The location to which you are publishing is Read-Only.
  • You do not have sufficient privileges to write to the selected publish location.
  • There is not enough available disk space to publish the presentation in the selected location.

You might need to select a publish location that is not Read-Only, or increase your available disk space. It is recommended that you coordinate with your IT staff to correct these issues.

Please also be sure that you've installed, and are running Presenter, as an administrator.
