Ending a presentation

Oct 16, 2012

I have a basic presentation that ends with a thank you slide.  This presentation does not report to any LMS or anything else and there isn't a quiz, just a simple presentation.  Is there a way to have the player close and exit to a specific web page?  I have Studio 09 Pro and have not used it much recently.

Hey Todd,

Good question - the best bet I could think of would be to have a second slide thereafter, timed appropriately, that has the webpage either embedded in the slide, or runs a macro to launch the external browser. Otherwise, you could run back to the good ol' days without such great tools and have a "Click Here" button on that "Thank You" slide!

Are you publishing this as a SCORM package? Or simply throwing it up on to Articulate?

Hey Todd,,

A really simple way of doing this would be to use the Web Object tool. Head to your last slide and click on Web Object in the Articulate menu. Then provide your web address and now we have two options. Display in slide or Display in a new browser window. It sounds like you'd like to have it display in an external browser so go ahead and select that one. You can then set the level of browser controls the user will have and how large the browser window will be. The last option is setting when the website will appear. Since you have a Thank you on the last slide you may want to give it a few seconds before the browser opens up and hides your presentation.

Now this solution doesn't close your presentation but it does load the webpage automatically in an external browser on your last slide. One thing to keep in mind is that your user may have a pop up blocker enabled on their browser and it will let them know that a website has been blocked. It may not hurt to double your efforts if it's a very important webpage and place a link on the final page as well!

Let me know if this solves your problem or if having the actual presentation close is a must. The other option would be to display the webpage in the slide and hide the toolbar. That would avoid the possibility of the webpage getting blocked by a pop up blocker and would be the only window they would have to close. Hope this helps!

Another option is the next presentation web object which would allow you to take them to the web page at the end from the same window.  I use this to take them back to the LMS site at the end of the tutorial.  Link below has instructions for bringing the user to the next presentation but you can adapt it for any web page.
