How Articulate Completion Status Works?

Apr 23, 2013

I am troubleshooting an ongoing problem with our LMS vendor regarding Articulate-wrapped courses consistently granting credit.  I have my presentation set up to show the following reporting/tracking options:

  • LMS Reporting: Passed/Incomplete (LMS vendor said this is what we need to use)
  • Track using number of slides viewed:  21 of 25

When I run my course with these parameters, Articulate does not send a "status=passed" message to our LMS (Virtual Training Assistant by RISC).  However, if I change my tracking to 1 of 25, then I receive completion.

I have more testing to do to make sure I can always get credit with the 1 of 25 setting and if so, that can function as a workaround.  Any ideas why the higher slide count wouldn't pass a completion message to our LMS?  Any insight into the back-end of how Articulate sends completion status?

Hi Jonathan,

What LMS are you using? Is it Saba, by any chance? If you are using Saba version 5.4 and find that the course status is never being set to Completed (or Passed) in the LMS, then this topic will explain how to correct the problem.

Also, have you tested your course in SCORM Cloud? This would help us determine if the issue is Articulate related or if it's on your LMS's side.

If it appears in SCORM Cloud as well, we'd be happy to take a closer look at what might be going on.

If you can't replicate the issue in SCORM Cloud, it's probably an issue that you'd want to take to your LMS team.

Let us know how it turns out.

Thanks, Christine.  We use an LMS called Virtual Training Assistant, by the Houston-based company, RISC.  We also use AICC.  If I publish to SCORM, then I should be able to take advantage of the SCORM cloud.  Should the output function the same and produce the same results?

Thanks for the additional links, I'll check out the articles and see what help I can find there.

Hi Jonathan,

If you're using AICC content please take a look at the article below for testing information:

Articulate Support - Testing AICC content at SCORM Cloud

Sorry about that! Hopefully that information will help you test it out in SCORM Cloud.

If you run into any trouble using those steps, please let me know.

Thanks!

Christine
