How to shorten time (seconds) that slides are shown?

Aug 01, 2011

I see the 5 second default in Presentation Options for Slides without audio or animation... But how can I change the timing for slides that do have audio but need to be shortened?

I have the same issue with a bit of a different spin.. I have a slide with two simple objects- no audio, no narration, no animations. Default is set at 5 seconds for this type of slide and the slide does last 5 seconds. This is good. Now, I add fade-in animations to each object with 'after previous' criteria. Duration on each is .25 sec and delay is 0 sec. Publish the slide and the length shoots up to 11 seconds. I don't need 11 seconds... this slide should not go past the default 5. The only way I can get it back to 5 is to take one of the animations out. This isn't making sense to me. I've tried building a new slide with new objects, but no luck. Sorry if this should be a new thread, but it was the only thing close.

Hi Jeff,

I think i had a similar problem. And i went into the audio editor, to see that the slide timing was 9 seconds (in your case, it is 11 seconds). When i selected and deleted some audio time (which is 'silence' actually) the problem was rectified. Took some trial and error efforts. But worked finally.. may be you could try that too...

Hello all... this thread is almost a year old and I've since been working mostly with Storyline. However, I have a client for whom I'm working with Studio 09 and this thing has reared its ugly head once again. I have not found a solution to this particular issue and I'm hoping someone can point me straight. I took a VERY simple slide with only a couple of text bullets and a 'Click to go to the QUIZ' text+arrow group at the bottom. I test the slide with NO ANIMATION or AUDIO and it times at 5 seconds as it should. As soon as I add a simple fast fade-in animation to the text+arrow group with NO delay the slide length jumps up to 11 seconds! Remove the animation and it goes back to 5 seconds. I have fooled with the audio editor, and other attempts to fix this, but it is a consistent issue. Can anybody put this to bed for me?

For any who may be interested... here is the response from Articulate re: this issue.

In Presenter, the total slide duration is the sum of duration (in seconds) you set on the following:
Articulate > Presentation Options: Publish
** Slides without audio or animation display for x seconds: --> value should be greater than 0.
** On mouse click animations without set timings display after x seconds: value can be 0 and above.
• Animation delay you set on your PowerPoint animation(s).
For instance, if you have both Presentations Options above set to 5 seconds, then the slide duration is already 10 seconds. Now if you have set your PowerPoint animation delay to 1 second, then it adds up so total slide duration becomes 11 seconds.
If you want to test, change the “Slides without audio or animation” value to 1 then “On mouse click animations” to zero. This results to 1 second slide duration. Then add up the animation delay you set (in your case, 1 second) so total slide duration should be 2 seconds when published.
On this light, adjust the value of the Presentation Options above if you want to decrease your slide duration.

I tested this and it does work... HOWEVER, I've been using Presenter since its inception and I do not remember ever having to adjust the global default settings to zero or 1 in order to get my slide animation timings down. What happens to the slides that do NOT have animations or sound or mouse click animations?? The adjusted default settings would cause them to flash by too quickly... reset the defaults to 5 and you impact the slides you already shortened! I admit I remain confused about this although I'm sure it's something quite obvous that I'm missing.... good luck.
