Missing characters in HTML5

Sep 06, 2016

I have a client that does not allow Flash on their desktop/laptop computers. So we are trying to have them use the HTML5 version on all their machines. Additionally, the content must run in Internet Explorer, as the client does not install Chrome, Edge, or other browsers on their machines.

When we try to run the content on one of their machines in IE by pointing to the story_html5 file, it doesn't display all the text characters. Please see the attached screenshot so you can see what I mean. I have also attached the Storyline file.

For your reference, you can copy and paste the following link into an IE browser window so you can see how this is behaving in a live environment (page 1 functions okay, but pages 2 and 3 are missing letters): http://www.mpixcom.com/course_test_02/story_html5.html

I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Lou,

You posted this in a Presenter section of the forums - but mentioned Storyline, so I'll include Storyline resources. We don't offer support for IE and HTML5 as documented here, and that is based on how the individual browsers handle the HTML5 content so missing items or elements would be expected. I've heard a few folks who mention that they have tested their content in some of these nonsupported set ups and had good results - so you may want to look into what IE version they're using - for example IE11 would likely work better than IE 8.

Also, knowing that many browsers and companies are looking at blocking Flash as a default (it can often be reenabled) our team continues to look at ways in which we can provide support for a greater variety of browsers and platforms. I don't have anything specific to share on that currently, but it's something our team is continuing to work towards.

Ashley,

Thanks for the reply. Sorry to hear we will have a tough time using Articulate for this client. (For several years, Flash has been in the process of being phased out. I'm surprised the Articulate development team hasn't been more proactive in this area. Please let me know if you have any estimated timeline for upcoming enhancements or releases that will address these kinds of issues.)

Thanks.
