Presenter Template issue

Nov 19, 2012

When I update the label on a tab within the Presenter template shell and save the file I'm working, I'd expect that change to go with the file when I send it to someone else.

However, when someone else opens the file and works on the template shell, the changes don't appear.

What I think happens is that the template reflects settings on the individual person's computer, not what's included in the file.

Am I right?

How can I ensure that if I change the labels and preferences in a template, those changes will go with the template/file and aren't just on my machine?

Does everyone who is going to work on the file/use the file need to download a new theme file?

Hi Jolie,

If you update or share a template, you'll need to share the Presenter Package. This file contains the data for the template you've created and the changes that are made to it.

For more information on creating a Presenter Package, take a look at this article

If the first author publishes the presentation using the template they created, that information is stored in the PPTA file. If they then send those project files to you, and you open the Player Templates in Presenter it should say the name of the template and (in project) next to it. Keep in mind that the person you are working with needs to publish the presentation at least once with the updated player template and then when they send, that it is included in the PPTA file.

So, there's no need for everyone to download the template. They'll just need to have access to the actual template file and keep it updated.

Thanks, Christine. I'm thinking I may not have stated the issue as clearly as I could have.

We have a template that all of our designers will be using. A clean copy of the template is stored on a shared server.

When making changes to labels and color schemes, those changes don't appear when someone downloads a copy of the file from the shared server.

My thought is that each designer needs to have the theme files downloaded onto his/her machine, and/or will have to change labels manually before they can see those changes in the template. Is that accurate?

Hi Jolie,

For the most part, yes. Working on files that aren't on the local machine will cause issues. It would be best to have them download it to their local machine, save any changes they make, then upload the updated version to share. This way, they'll have access to the updated template (that will function properly) and they'll be able to update the template, as well.

Here's a little more information on the topic:

1.  Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.

2. You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).

3.  Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names.

Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in the following Microsoft article:

I hope this answers your question. If not, please let me know!

Hi Christine,

I'm upgraded to studio '13.  Can you let me know what location/path the color scheme and templates are stored on one's local hard-drive.  I need to get everyone in our group to share the template created in Studio 13 as our old studio 09 colorscheme and template can not be used in '13.  But I can't find the location where the template is stored for Presenter 13?  I tried to place my saved template created in '13 into the same "template" folder in Presenter for '09 location, but it doesn't appear as a selection to pick from when selecting a template within presenter '13.

thanks for your help/direction.
