Project Upgrade Error Message

May 02, 2014

I have created a new PPT and am trying to insert a new Quizmaker file, but each time I click on the Quizmaker button, I get an error message that says my project cannot be upgraded to the new '13 file format (see image attached).  I have tried reloading the Presenter .exe file and have rebooted, all to no avail.

Please help!

Hi Debbie,

Can you tell us if your original project was created in Studio '09 or an earlier version?

Only Articulate Presenter '09 projects can be upgraded. If your project was originally created in Articulate Presenter 5 or earlier, see this article for a workaround:

Project Cannot Be Upgraded to the New File Format

If, however, you created the project in Studio '09, please make sure you're working with local project files.

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names (this includes spaces and underscores).

Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in the following Microsoft article.

If you still have trouble, please share an Articulate Package of the project so I can take a look. You're welcome to attach the file here, if it's not too large (under 20MB), or I can send you details on how to send the file to me privately. I'd be happy to take a look and see what's happening.

Thanks!
