Publishing Difficulties

Apr 11, 2012

Hi,

I'm very new to this so have been facing a lot of kinks that I need to figure out. I have completed my powerpoint, but when I publish it, then click 'view', a lot of my presentation is missing...text boxes, images, some of the interactive activities don't even appear. How do I correct this?

Also, once I am done I need to email it to my web designer so he can put it on our website. Do I simply email him the link that is provided?

Thanks

Hi Tessa. Are your project files located on a network drive and not your C: drive? Working on a network drive can cause erratic behavior.

Regarding sending your presentation to someone, I would not recommend email. Try something like Dropbox or if he wanted to give you access to a directory on your web server, you could upload the published output to him that way. Email is not a good method of delivering large files which your presentation likely would be.

Hi Tessa. You should only publish for LMS if you are going to host the content in an LMS. I would review this tutorial on publishing for the web and that should help you understand what you need to share.

Regarding your publishing issues, I would see if the steps outlined here help you out. If they don't, please send us your project files and we can take a closer look.

Right I no have it that when I click 'view' after publishing for the web, everything is fine. But then I used the drop box, as you suggested, but when you click the HTML files, nothing comes up or other people trying to open it, they either get nothing or an error message saying 'error 403'. I have provided them with not only the HTML files but the other files that come with it (the ones with all the individual bits), so I assume I have provided them with everything they need to open it.

What can I do to resolve this situation?

Thanks

This is from one of the people are putting my course into our website:

'I am only able to download all items via a zip file onto my pc and then load the course up that way.

I have now uploaded the entire zip file and then created 3 links to each of the html launch files. They do the same – open two pop-up windows, one of which is Articulate, which I presume is trying to load the presentation as it has a small box in the middle of the screen and the other just a blank screen.'

Once the files are uploaded in dropbox, when you try and view the html files, nothing happens but empty pop-up windows. I have provided them with all the folders, including the upload folder. Could you please give me a step-by-step guide as to how you get the published files, into my web server? Also, why am  having difficulty seeing the html files once they are in dropbox?

I have forwarded my web designer this link, so he can discuss the finer details with you.

Thanks

Hi Tessa.

You can't store a presentation in a zip file and put it on a web server and have it play. They need to upload the folder that contains the published output.

What I would do is this:

1. Create a folder here: C:\Articulate Publish

2. Publish there.

3. When publish completes select View Presentation. Can you see the presentation? If so, go to the next step.

3. See the folder there created in C:\Articulate Publish after you publish? That is what the person needs to upload to the web server in an uncompressed format. That is also what you would need to copy to your dropbox folder. The folder and everything in it is the published output.

If you look at the Dropbox tutorial, you are copying and pasting the public URL into your web browser, not double clicking an HTML file.
