Questions about flash plug-in

Feb 22, 2011

While letting a few people prototype the first e-course that I designed, a few of them were getting the flash plug-in needed at the 5th or so slide that had the first ineraction. When they downloaded it, it restarted the course from the beginning. Is there a way to force the check for the plug-in at the start of the course? I was thinking about put a small interaction on the first slide but not sure what to put in it since it's really just a 'title and welcome' slide. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Allie- welcome to E-Learning Heroes!

That's strange that your users wouldn't be getting a prompt about Flash until the 5th slide, since they shouldn't be able to even load the first slide without Flash Player.

What type of content is on the 5th slide? And what browser are your users using?

Also, there's code in the published Articulate Presenter output (in \player\flashcommand.js) that should prompt users to download the Flash Player if they don't already have it.

Hi Allie & welcome to Heroes,

The Articulate presentation requires Flash Player 6.0.79.  Do you have something in your 5th slide that contains an external SWF, FLV, or MP4?  If so, then your extra content is likely prompting for a higher version of the Flash Player.  For example, FLV files require Flash Player 7, while MP4 files require Flash Player 9.

I've added flash (swf) movies (some are interactions, and some are actual screen movies that I have created). I wonder what the best way to handle this is. I need to recreate the the movies that I saved because I need to use Camtasia to do some edits and such. Is there a way to define what version I insert into the slides? Or should I convert them to another format?

Hi Allie,

Depending upon the tool you're using (Camtasia?), there may be an option to export the files to a lesser Flash Player version.

Also, you'll want to make sure that the resume feature is enabled in your presentation.  This may help with the end-user's being sent back to the beginning of the presentation:
