Stop Autoplaying PowerPoint Slides in Presenter

Mar 12, 2014

I am not able to find how to keep Presenter from creating an auto-play file. I don't want slides and builds to advance automatically, only on click. Is there a setting I am missing? Thanks.

Hi Leslie
In my file have all of the slides set to be changed by user in the Presenter slide manager. When I preview in PowerPoint, the slides and slide content do not advance unless I click. When I preview or publish in Presenter, the slides don't change unless I use the advance button, but they auto play each build. Is there a way to keep the slides from auto building (if that is the term) and allow the builds to be controlled by the user clicking?
Thanks.

Hi Steve!

I'm not following your question.

I'm going to send you a PM so that you can upload your project for review.

I think PM answers should be avoided as people can face the same problem and there is no answer to refer to. Having said that, I have this same problem too. Presenter 13 auto plays (it moves forward in the presentation) with no user interaction, even if in PowerPoint the only way to move to the next slide is clicking o pressing a key in the keyboard. This shouldn't be the expected behavior.

Can somebody provide the answer to this?

THANKS!

Hi Hector! I agree and we no longer have that feature to communicate between staff/users anyway - this thread is a bit dated.

However, there are times that the users need to share files privately with us. We do try to keep the forums updated when there is a solution to share, however many times the issue is file specific and that could be confusing.

That being said, do you have the slide properties for your course set up to Advance By User as this documentation explains? Sounds like you may have them set up to Auto Advance.

I apologize for dredging up such an old thread...  I have the same question and have looked at the documentation.  The question is not about advancing from one slide to the next slide, but is about advancing through the content and animations on the slide itself.  Instead of Articulate automatically playing the slide, I'd like the user to have to click or down-arrow to see the next transition within the slide.  For example, if there's a bulleted list on the slide I'd like the user to control when the slide shows the first bullet, second, third, etc. by clicking or hitting the down-arrow.

Overall, what I'm trying to accomplish is providing a presentation without audio where the viewer can open the notes and follow visual "(click)" cues in the notes as to when to advance to the next animation on the slide.  I hope this makes sense.  Thanks.

Hello Mark!

I'm happy to help! It sounds like you're trying to add conditions that the learner needs to meet prior to moving to the next slide. I'd recommend importing your PowerPoint slides into Storyline 360 so that you can add these conditions.

Presenter doesn't have the triggers panel and variables like Storyline 360 does. Feel free to look at these complimentary Storyline 360 downloads which might spark design inspiration!

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Hi Lauren,

Thanks for replying.

It's not about moving to the next slide, but staying on the same slide and revealing the next animation manually.

I'll try another way to explain what I'm looking for.  In PowerPoint you can give a presentation using presenter view, which shows the presenter (not the audience) the slide they're on, including any and all animations that have built into the slide, and it shows the notes for that slide all in one window.  When I use animations on a slide I do most of them "on click" instead of running automatically so that I, as the presenter, control the pace of the presentation.

What I'm trying to do is turn my audience into their own presenters, but giving them the current slide and all the notes visible on one screen, and the ability to trigger the animations manually within each slide (as prompted by the notes).  This way the presentation is self-paced.

Currently, only the desktop version of PowerPoint has presenter view (not PowerPoint online), so the only way to turn my audience into their own self-presenters with these features is to set them up with the desktop version, give them the file, and train them to present, which I'm trying to avoid.  If PowerPoint would allow a user to see the presenter notes in a PowerPoint show, and had that available in the online version, that would be perfect, but they don't.

And, if Storyline can do this, but only in the 360 version, I'll have to wait until you're FedRAMP certified to take advantage of it, which I hear is coming!

Thank you.

It is likely that this is caused by a setting in the 'Transitions' tab in the navigational ribbon (Note: this is different to the animation tab - where you might expect to find this).

Make sure that you deselect the 'After' option which may be checked on the top right which can potentially cause slides to transition from one to another in present mode without (perceived) user interaction - quite a frustrating one.

Time Saver: If you have multiple slides you want to apply a setting to - use the 'Apply to All' option to the right of the option itself and your setting will cascade across all slides in your deck.

Hope this helps.
