Translate the text labels to another language AND make it GLOBAL!
Aug 03, 2011
After searching all over the Internet, all I found was how to change the text labels inside Articulate's Player Template and save them toghether with a template. But this didn't make a new language in the language drop down list, and besides, if you want to share it with others, they have to do a lot of steps to get it, every time.
This is what you should do to actually make a new global language in the drop down list:
Go to c:/program files/Articulate/Presenter/labels (or c:/program files(x86)/... if you have a 64 bit OS)
Here you have all the languages bundled with Articulate as XML-files. Open one of them (preferable the language you know best) in a text editor, change the texts and save it as a new xml-file named after the new language, in the same location. You need admin privileges to do that. Then you can mail (or whatever) this new XML-file to others and tell them to put it in the same folder on their machines.
Beware: If you use Windows 7 (I'm not sure about Vista. Maybe there too). The XML-file you're trying to save MAY not be saved in the folder mentioned above, but in C:\Users\[your name]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Articulate\Presenter\Labels instead (it did for me, even though I "saved as" in the Program Files-folder). If this happens, try to save to you desktop instead, and then move it into the correct folder.
Why isn't this the more official recipe from Articulate instead? I have noe used two working days scratching my head and searching the net trying to make a Norwegian version of our Articulate, available for all my coleagues, and this seems to be the perfect solution.

Hi Jorgen,
If you'd like to see better support for sharing text labels in the future, please submit a feature request to us by using the link below:

Hi Jorgen,
Thanks for that useful tip. But this xml files does not include ALL the text labels. Especially when you look at the Quizmaker labels, you will find that most of them are not in that table. Do you (or anyone else) have an idea where they are hidden? When we send the translation files out to our translators, we like to send them a table with all the labels so that they have a reference while translating.
Hi Walter & welcome to Heroes,
Is the spreadsheet in the link below what you're looking for?

Hi Brian,
Yes, these are the strings that I have been looking for. Now if you could point me to where the translations are stored, that would be great. This way, I could create a bilingual table for translators to reference.
Good question... Did a search for "english.xml" on my C-drive. Only one hit: The Presenter-labels, nothing for the quizes. Anyone?
Hi Jorgen,
The Quizmaker text labels are the .labels file type & are usually stored here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Articulate\Shared\1.0\PlayerTemplates\SmoothFrame\TextLabels
Thank you,Brian. This helps me a lot!
