Unable to upload an Articulate Presentation into my LMS

Nov 21, 2013

I have uploaded quite a few Articulate Presentations into my LMS with a Web video embedded into my presentation.  Today I updated one of the videos and re-published my updated my Articulate Presentation and published it to a zip file to upload to my LMS.  However, I am continuing to get a severe error in my LMS.  Here is what it it stating.

No valid files were encountered. Please confirm that you have the correct file path and try again.

This is very odd because, 1. I have done this process numerous times in the past. 2.  My LMS (Cornerstone) is not recognizing that there is a file.

Also, when I "test" my web link option within Articulate, it will not run the video (again, it has worked in the past) however, when I preview the file the video runs fine.

I would like some assistance on how to trouble shoot this issue.

Thank you

Aloha--

I have the same problem.  My first three Stories uploaded and played no problem.  Then I updated Storyline and the next one will not open, and I get a message that the files are not valid.  I have tried this on both a Mac and a PC on different networks.  What is SCORM Clud and can I use it to check my file too?  My students are anxious to see this week's materials.

Hi Michelle,

Sinchu's suggestion is not a bad place to start. I also wanted to check, are these Presenter courses being updated from Presenter 09 to 13, or are you still working within the same Presenter version when updating the course? Since it sounds like something may be happening in terms of creating the publish files, you may also want to conduct a repair of your Studio software.

Aloha Susan!

Are you trying to open the .story file after updating to Storyline update 4? You mentioned trying on different networks, and you'll want to confirm that you're working on local project files and that you're also publishing to your local drive, and then testing within the intended environment. Scorm Cloud is an industry standard testing method to test content within an LMS environment. If you're deploying your courses through an LMS, that's a great place to start for testing to ensure everything works correctly before it goes "live." If you're still experiencing an error message after checking the above, can you share what the error message says?

1)  I created this Story after updating to the latest Storyline (I guess it's 4?).

2) I have no idea what you mean by local project files.  I created it, it's on my computer, that's local enough for me. When I click on the Story on the computer on which I created it, it works.

3) When I upload from my PC, I can see the folder published to our course LMS.  I can get in to click on the "story.html", which spins forever.  I did this again, and I did it a third time with another name.  Same issue. Always loading, never loads.

4)  I zipped up the files and sent them to myself at home. When I open the files directly on my Mac, the Story runs just fine.  When I try to upload from my Mac is when I get the corrupted file message.

What would be my next step?

Hi Susan,

1) You can always check what version of Storyline you're using by going to the Help tab, and clicking on About Articulate Storyline. You'll see the version information there.

2) I was referring to working on project files while they are saved in your local drive, typically your C: drive. Working with files on a network or USB drive can cause issues associated with file corruption

3) If you've loaded to your LMS and are unable to play the course from there, I would suggest testing in another environment such as SCORM Cloud to determine if the LMS or the Storyline file is causing the issue.  If all works as expected in SCORM Cloud, you'll want to connect with your LMS team. If the Storyline file is unable to open or play in SCORM Cloud, please share the .story file with us here, or privately here.

4) When referring to viewing your files on a Mac, you'll be able to view the course if you're system matches up with the requirements here, but you won't be able to author content unless you're running Storyline in a Windows virtual environment.

Since you mentioned receiving a corruption error, I'd suggest to start by importing that Storyline file into a new project and publish that version. If you're receiving the corruption message across all your files, I'd confirm again that in addition to working locally that:

  • You should also make sure the directory pathto your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters(for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents orsymbols in your file names.

You may also want to conduct a repair of Storyline.

SCORM Cloud has been spinning its wheels for 10 minutes, so it seems as though it's an issue with the Storyline file. I cannot upload the .Storyline file here.  I get the repeated message that the file is not found, even when it is, very plainly, very clearly, there, and functioning just fine on my desktop.  Can I email it to you?  Your assistance is very much appreciated as my class keeps asking when the materials will be ready.  :(

I just checked my Storyline, and it is the latest version - 4-13-11-1422.  I also note that when I updated, it removed my serial number and so I am now running it as a "trial" until I can find the time to locate the serial number and add it back in, but trial mode shouldn't affect this as it's full-functional, right?

Aloha--

I still have not received it.  Again, I've searched by in-basket and my spam folder, as well as doing a search on my email account for the words "storyline" or "articulate."  I am receiving response to forum posts, so I know that the email address you have on file for me is correct.  It would be fine with me if John posted his response to this forum.

Ashley,

We just upgraded to a new LMS so I have been transferring courses from the prior system all morning.  I had two courses that produced a "No valid files were encountered" error.  I didn't even notice that the file names had ampersands until you mentioned no special characters, etc.  Works just fine now!

THANK YOU!
