Branching in Quizmaker - help
Apr 24, 2013
I am STILL having branching nightmares.
I check and recheck EVERYTHING but the branching seems to do what it wants to do.
For example - if it's correct it goes to the correct slide but if it isn't it goes to the correct slide. Or vice versa. Or it doesn't go to any slide at all - a pop up happens.
I've: checked that feedback is off in the settings and the more box and the option on top of the page.
I've: made sure the links were correct
I've: got it set for submit one at a time
And I've fiddle with some other things too - but no luck.
I'm attaching the file if anyone can help

Good morning Lauren!
Thanks for sharing the file :)
For the first two questions "True/False" and "Multiple Choice" I don't see any branching enabled, or blank slides. So, I'm assuming these two questions are not ones you wish to branch. Correct?
For the third question "Hotspot" I noticed there are blank slides that have been created, but no branching has been applied to the question. Only the score amounts:
Once I enabled the feedback for this question I saw the branching for the "Correct" and "Incorrect" blank slides.
I think I may have found why prompts were still showing up for this question, as well. Looks like there were some extra spaces in the feedback fields. Once I deleted these spaces, the branching seems to work properly.
I also noticed that the attempts for this question are set to "Unlimited". If you use this setting, the user will be able to try again until they've answered correctly. I assume this isn't what you want to happen, since you have a custom "Incorrect" slide. I changed the amount of attempts to "2", simply for testing. You may want to adjust this to an amount that suits your needs.
On the next question "Multiple Response", I noticed there was no branching enabled for this question as well. Once I enabled feedback for "By question", I noticed the same thing. The branching is set up and there's extra spaces in the text fields for feedback and the attempts are set to "Unlimited".
Can you take a look at the modified file and see if those questions are working properly for you now?
Thanks!
Thanks again Christine -
I'm catching on that the devil is in the details....Who knew there were spaces? ( I guess you did)
But I'm also a little confused because I thought the feedback had to be off for branching -
Also, it seems that one can't go back to a hot spot question (can't branch to one already answered) because the hot spot remains hot.. Is that true?
Anyway, thanks for all your help.
Hi Lauren,
Certainly is :) Honestly, it was just by luck that I noticed it.
You'll want the feedback on, but you'll want to make sure that there's no actual feedback. This is because the branching is actually controlled in the feedback options, itself. As long as the feedback fields are completely blank, there will be no prompts.
Not quite sure what you mean on the Hotspot question - do you mean that it stays selected? If so, yes - the marker that's placed will remain on the slide if the user goes back to it. If that's not what you're asking, let me know :)
Thanks Lauren!
Christine
That was what I was asking.
I'm thinking for my first venture in articulate and with a looming deadline I'm going to keep it a little simpler first time around.
Thanks again for your help.
You're very welcome, Lauren :)
Good luck with the project! Hopefully it will go smoothly.
Also, if that's your first venture, you're doing very well! Keep up the good work!
Have a wonderful day,
Christine
