"Edit in Quizmaker" error - won't allow me to open the quiz

Apr 24, 2013

I have a quiz set up in Presenter. When I go to the slide and click on the Edit in Quizmaker button it looks like it is opening the quiz but then I get an error message:

"The file "Q3.quiz" is being used by another process or you do not have the proper security permission to access this resource".

I have not made any other changes and this error is not appearing for any other quizzes I have in the file.

Help!

Good morning Jan,

When you received this error, did you have Quizmaker open in the background, by any chance?

If you haven't already, I would suggest restarting your machine. If you're still unable to open the quiz through Presenter, are you able to open it through Quizmaker itself?

Also, you may want to make sure all of your project files are on your local hard drive.

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names (this includes spaces and underscores).

Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in the following Microsoft article.

Let me know how it goes!

Thanks,

Christine

Hi Christine,

Both myself and a colleague had the same problem. He shutdown his computer completely, opened the file and then tried to open the Quiz.

I didn't have Quizmaker open in the background, only the file and had the same problem.

Yes, we always work from the files on our hard drive. File name has no special characters, etc.

Any other suggestions of what it could be?

Jan
