Quiz Update after publishing

Sep 17, 2013

Hi,

I work on an e-learning that embeds several quizzes. I modified the quizzes properties so that the user cannot retry each quiz. When I republish the document, the quizzes are not updated. I tried to publish one quiz with the same modification without going through powerpoint, and this time the modification was taken into account.

I checked the Articulate Add-ins in Powerpoint and they are all enabled.

I don't know how I can come through this.

I will appreciate some help.

Thank you by advance

Hi Karine and welcome to Heroes!

If you embedded an Articulate Quizmaker quiz into an Articulate Presenter presentation and later made changes to the quiz that aren't showing up in the published course, do the following to update the quiz:

  1. Open your presentation in PowerPoint.
  2. Go to Articulate tab on the PowerPoint ribbon, and click Presentation Options.
  3. Select the Publish tab on the left.
  4. Mark the box to Update Quizmaker quizzes and Engage interactions before publishing.
  5. Click the OK button.
  6. Republish your presentation.

Hi Allen!

Here is a document explaining how quizzes and interactions are stored in Presenter '13.

When creating, editing, and publishing Articulate Presenter '13 courses, be sure you're working on your local hard drive (typically your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, such as file corruption, an inability to save changes, and loss of resources. See this article for more information.

Hi Leslie,

Unfortunately, the document conflicts with the behavior I am encountering. I am already following protocol and using files off my local drive. All files stay in their original locations from when I published the quiz to Presenter. If I open a published quiz from Presenter, I can see Quizmaker sourcing the quiz from the quiz file; not from cache. However, my Presenter '13 does NOT recognize a changed file and update the presentation automatically. I am forced to open Presenter, go to a published quiz slide, "edit" the quiz in Quizmaker, make no changes, and simply save the quiz and return to PResenter. The method updates the quiz slide in Presenter, but it does not do it itself.

Hi Allen,

Leslie is out of the office today. I understand you're having some trouble with Quizmaker '13 content updating correctly in your project. I stopped by to see if I could be of some assistance.

I'm glad to hear that you're working locally. It may also help to check the file names of both your Presenter presentation and your Quizmaker quizzes. If these contain any special characters, including spaces, underscores, dashes and any other characters that are not alphanumeric, there can be some strange results.

I would recommend renaming your Presenter file, PowerPoint file (make sure they match) and your Quizmaker files to shorter names. You may want to delete and reinsert your quizzes as well, just to ensure the most recent version is loaded into the project. If you rename the files, try to keep it simple and short if possible.

It may also help to confirm whether or not this happens in a specific project. If you haven't already, please try to create a new presentation with new quiz files inserted. Do you experience the same issue with this new project, or does it seem to be specific to your existing project(s)?

After trying the above, try updating and see if the changes take hold. If they do not, it may help to run a repair:

Hi Christine,

thanks for checking in. I have no special characters in the presentation or quiz names. They are the same as before in '09, and '09 updated properly. The names are already quite short, as I learned to do with '09. This behavior is with all of my Presenter projects; not just one. Presenter simply fails to detect a more recent version unless I re-open the quiz from presenter and then re-save and return to presenter.
