Quiz won't start

Jul 18, 2011

Hi!

I have a 500 question quiz, shows 40 random questions.  It is not wrapped in a presentation and does have slide at the end for passed / failed announcement.  It opens fine for most users but we are occasionally finding some can't open it - it just spins the "please wait" wheel non stop.  The last was a user in IE8, unknown operatins system.  Had also tried to open it in an IPad and couldn't.

Is there a base set of computer specs to be able to run a quiz - minimum Flash, operating system, RAM?  I know it's big but most are able to open it OK.

Thanks,

Jo

Well, the iPad issue is that iPads don't run Flash, and probably never will. Unless you jailbreak yours, which voids all warranties and contracts on the device.

How was the file published (LMS, Web, CD)? Which file is the user using to launch the course? And yes, John has a point. Which LMS are you running through, if any?

As it's Flash based, it should run on any PC or MAC that has the Flash player version 6 installed.  OS and Ram aren't really issues anymore.

True Dwayne, we have had the content running on Android handhelds, so thats a plus for Android yay!  Apple - BAH!

We have used it in Docebo - which has issues with some browser/OS combinations.  We were told to set Compatibility mode - which is all well and good in a corporate environment, but I feel its wrong when you put your content out to the general public who may not be computer literate.

I think when a release of any of their products come out, they should test it within most of the common Open Source and Commerical LMS out there with a variety of OS/Browser combinations, and either tweaked or given better instruction as to getting their product working in those environments.  We test our content on LInux/Mac & Windows before it goes out!

Hi Jo,

First, here's the requirements for viewing published Articulate content:

Flash Player 6.0.79 or later (http://www.adobe.com/go/getflash) (Flash Player 7 or later recommended), and one of the following browsers:

  • Windows: Internet Explorer 6 and later, Firefox 1.x and later, Safari 3 and later, Google Chrome, Opera 9.5 and later
  • Macintosh: Safari 3 and later, Firefox 1.x and later, Google Chrome
  • Linux: Firefox 1.x and later

=====================

Since the issue only happens occasionally & you don't have much data on the browsers, we'll have to guess at a few solutions.

First, being that you have a large quiz, it's possible that the end-user didn't wait long enough to load the quiz.  When you have a 500 question quiz, Quizmaker will load the entire 500 questions.  Then, it'll randomly select 40 from that pool.  So, make sure that your end-users have a decent internet connection.

If they continue to have issues, have them completely reinstall the Flash Player by using the method below:

Uninstall your current version of the Flash Player. Follow the steps here:

http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_14157

Download the latest version of Flash:

http://www.adobe.com/go/getflash

It's possible that they have a corrupt installation of the Flash Player.  The only way to ensure that the corruption has been removed it to actually uninstall Flash Player first and then reinstall it.

Finally, you'll want to make sure that the path to the quiz file is small & doesn't contain special characters like (&, %, #, etc).  You can check this by launching your browser & then copying / pasting the address into a program like Word or Notepad.

If you continue to have issues, check to see if the user can replicate the issue on another quiz file.  The issue could be resolved by simply republishing the quiz & re-uploading it to your LMS.

If you still have issues after that, make sure that you're publishing your content with the latest version of Quizmaker:
