Video Encoder 09 Crashes on Startup

Jul 14, 2011

I know this is the Quizmaker forum, but there is no forum for Video Encoder so I posted this here.

Video Encoder 09 is crashing immediately on startup, before the initial splash screen finishes loading. Other Articulate products on the PC, Presenter 09 and Quizmaker 09, are installed and working. The PC is running Windows 7 32 bit. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing using the newest version of Studio, Update 8. I also re-installed Adobe Flash Player but it had no effect either. Any help is appreciated.

Hi Ramy,

Can you reinstall Flash player by using the method below?

*******Please do the following in Internet Explorer.

Uninstall your current version of the Flash Player. Follow the steps here:

Download the latest version of Flash:

http://www.adobe.com/go/getflash

After that, restart your computer and see if you can replicate the issue.  If you still have problems, can you try reinstalling the Articulate software?

Matt,

I did eventually get this to work. I will post the steps I took to resolve the issue, however I would try this as a last resort - only if the suggestions made by Brian and other Articulate staff don't resolve the issue for you.

-I installed the Articulate Studio from the download link here http://www.articulate.com/downloads/studio09.php.

-I then started Video Encoder '09 using the Compatibility Wizard in Windows 7 (right click on the shortcut, Troubleshoot Compatibility). I then clicked "Try Recommended Settings," then "Start Program." This allowed me to run Video Encoder '09 once*.

-I then performed a manual activation. Once activated, the program works normally - I could remove the compatibility settings and run it without problems.

It seems the activation screen was causing the issue, which is odd since I could activate Quizmaker and Presenter without any problem. However our organization has very strict restrictions on our PCs so maybe something conflicted with Flash Player that I could not detect.

*I could not get the program to run again without clearing the compatibility settings and using the Compatibility Wizard again. However, running it once is enough to activate the program and fix the issue. Good luck!
